Big news from shedquarters : Rose is officially a protected little lady! 🐿️
After many hours of prep and form filling, today I got the official Certificates of Registration from the UK Intellectual Property Office for all my Rose the Red Squirrel™️ designs!
She’s the face of my small business, Rusty Range, and since she’s gathering quite a following, I had to make sure she was extra safe. Increasingly it sadly became evident that me having copyright alone didnt appear to be enough 😟.
Red squirrels are very precious here on the Isle of Wight, and that includes Rose - keeping her safe over the last few months has been a top priority.
So what do these certificates mean? It means all 50 of my designs officially belong to me and are now fully backed by UK copyright AND design law and they cannot be copied or reproduced without my permission. In simple terms, no one else is allowed to copy her look or sell matching designs. If anyone does 'borrow' her look, the UK IPO will step right in to help me protect her and set things right. 🛡️❤️, but let's hope that doesn't happen eh.
Yes it took up a lot of time (and money), and involved lots of learning which I'd rather have avoided, but I truly believe in Rose and am serious about growing my small business, so I guess it was simply the next step which needed to be taken.
There's many exciting things in the future pipeline and now I know that Rose is officially safe, it makes my heart a little fuller and my anxiety levels a little lower!
