And it’s so simple to do!
It always feels wrong to make holes in your handmade bag 😅 but in this case it will make your bag last longer and protect the bottom from scuffing.

These prong bag feet are simple to use:

Mark where you want them to go,
Place the washer over the marks and then mark the slide slits,
Cut the slits with a sharp knife or seam ripper like I am here (being careful not to cut more),
Push the prongs in, place the washer over the prongs and then push them down.

We’ve used them here on our Merryn handbag pattern. Made in Aubergine Gwyn faux leather- available to preorder on our website.
The prongs feet and all other hardware seen are available in 4 different colours also on our website 😊

Unless you’re deliberately after a contrast stitching look 😆
Not only does sewing with matching thread elevate the look of the finished bag, it can also hide things like wonky stitching, and backstitching- lets remember we’re aiming for progress not perfection and we like to make bag making more enjoyable not stressful 😃
Fortunately, on our website we usually offer matching thread colours to the fabrics we stock and if you’re unsure you can send us a message and we’ll help you find the matching thread.
This Merryn bag uses the Forest Green Gwyn faux leather available to preorder on our website.
The matching thread is sage green.

And the “Cloudy Mountains” fabric is part of a new round of 12 different designs, available in 4 different bases on our website.

Don’t get bogged down with what stabiliser you need for bag making.
We’ll tell you what stabiliser you need for each part in our patterns and explain why you need that specific one and the look it achieves, so over time you’ll learn what you need without trying 😊

We’ve got new stabilisers in our shop now and we think the results speak for themselves- don’t take our word for it though, check out the amazing reviews on our website.

The bag in the video is the Merryn handbag.
We used Firm fuse on the base and sides for that great structure you can see.
We used Flexifuse on the main panels for a softer, slightly slouchy look.

There seems to be 2 types of bag makers:

Those who get excited to sew up the turning pocket, knowing their bag is completely finished 😃
And then those who forget completely and then wonder why their belongings keep disappearing in their bags 😅

Hands up to being the second one 🙋‍♀️ I don’t see what I’m looking for, but I can feel it somewhere behind the lining 🤣

Which one are you?

⭐ Bag is the Merryn handbag, sewing pattern by us.
⭐ Fabric is Gwyn faux leather in Aubergine available to preorder on our website.
⭐ All hardware available on our website.
