A beautiful room for an older client. Warm red brings real comfort and a sense of assured strength. My client wanted a space that felt uplifting and emotionally supportive. We worked on balancing the floor plan, working on symmetry to give a sense of calm and order, provided more storage, and of course the bold colour scheme. This is The Paint. A guest room, but never an afterthought. Softly layered and made for slow mornings—proof that the smallest rooms can still have plenty to say.

What do you call it: the living room, lounge, sitting room or front room?

Each name carries a little history. The parlour begins as a room for talking and receiving visitors, while the drawing room comes from “withdrawing room” — a place to retreat after dinner, rather than somewhere to sketch.

The front room is often exactly that: the room at the front of the house, kept ready for guests and, traditionally, the family’s best furniture. The sitting room and lounge place more emphasis on comfort, while the living room reflects the way the space becomes part of everyday family life.

So the name we use can reveal where we grow up, how the room is used and which family traditions quietly stay with us. There is rather a lot of social history hiding behind the sofa. What does your family call it? interiordesign

A beautiful snug offering depth and warmth. The walls are a sophisticated and delicate pink. Paired with warm antique brass and plenty of texture in the sofas rug and cushions. A room to sink into.

Some days, self-belief feels steady. Other days, it wobbles. Lately I’ve been sitting with how hard it can be to be a woman in business — to hold ambition, creativity, motherhood, professionalism, responsibility and self-doubt all at once, often without much space to pause or acknowledge the weight of it.

Being a self-employed mum in a professional career asks so much more than people often see. It asks you to keep showing up, to make decisions, to problem-solve, to adapt, to care deeply, to back yourself when you feel unsure, and to keep building even on the days when confidence feels thin. It can be hugely overwhelming at times, but I’m trying to remind myself that there is empowerment in this too — in the resilience, the sense of accomplishment, personal growth, and the quiet courage it takes to create a working life on your own terms, with people you love and who love you back . I am quietly blessed.

This images represent a cornerstone in what I’ve managed to achieve. This project fuelled something in me that is lasting and resounding and I remind myself today of what I have accomplished over the last decade.

When your room feels restless it is often the time to relax the layout, pull the curtains wide, and let your home feel a little more expansive. Think layered textiles, warm woods, collected objects, travel-worn pieces, and lighting that makes the evening feel golden.

A beautiful space doesn’t have to feel overly polished. Sometimes the most inspiring interiors are the ones that feel curious, open, and slightly untamed.

Style note: add one bold, joyful piece this week — a patterned cushion, sculptural lamp, oversized branch arrangement, or artwork that makes the whole room feel more alive.
