Some evenings it's just the four of you. Other times you've got extended family and friends round and need somewhere for everyone to actually sit.

The Monti handles both. It seats seven as standard and there's an eighth chair you can add on if numbers call for it. No shuffling furniture round every time the guest list changes.

The taupe aluminium frame is powder-coated to protect against rust and fade, while the rope detailing woven through the backrest and arms just adds a nice bit of texture and something different. It's been used to the max, sat on endlessly and dragged around the garden probably more than once! We'd usually say it's been rained on too, but that hasn't been very likely this year!

Clay soil shrinks when it's bone dry, then swells again once proper rain returns. That shift can nudge decking posts, fence panels and gates just enough to notice.

Anything tender that's been out in pots all summer won't thank you for a surprise frost, so it's worth keeping ahead of it.

🌡️ Keep an eye on the forecast, the first frost can catch you out earlier than expected
🏡 Move tender potted plants into a greenhouse, porch or conservatory before it hits

With cooler evenings approaching fast, September is when being outside after 7pm needs something extra to keep the chill off.

🧺 Store them somewhere dry and dark, in a paper bag rather than plastic
🏷️ Label everything now, because let's be honest, you won't remember what's what by spring!

Pelargonium or fuchsia fan? Now is a good time to take a few cuttings of these tender perennials.

🌱 Snip a few healthy, non-flowering shoots, making sure they're about 10cm long
🪴 Pot them with free-draining compost and put them in a sheltered place
💧 Keep the compost just moist (not soaked!) while they root

A cheap way to have new plants ready for next spring, without a trip to the garden centre.
