Lovely photos from my watercolour leaves workshop. I am always blown away by the talent, even from those who are complete beginners. My workshops are always aimed at beginners but are also structured in a way which offers next steps to those with some experience. A couple of participants moved on to ‘wet on wet’ technique which was very effective when recording the amazing colours on the leaves. Towards the end of the session we introduced water soluble pencils to add final details. Let me know what you think of the beautiful work!

Today I had an amazing visit to Cotswold Sculpture Park- beautiful pieces of work and the garden was stunning. If you haven’t been, I suggest you go. It closes for the season this Wednesday and will reopen on 1st April 2027

Last Friday I ran a watercolour leaf workshop and had a wonderful session. We studied and sketched leaf shapes before colour mixing with watercolours. The leaves were beautiful- lots of yellows and reds as well as greens and browns. We gradually added layers of paint to build up colour and once dry, we used water soluble pencils to add details. Most of the attendees were complete beginners and as always with these workshops, I was blown away by the finished results. We covered many skills in the session- observational drawing, use of sketching pencils, colour mixing, working wet on dry and wet on wet with the watercolour paints and finally, how to use water soluble pencils ‘dry’ and also how to activate them with water to achieve a more fluid effect.
