An older Ideal Logic boiler stopped working and showed an L2 ignition fault this week. After checking the cause, I traced it to a faulty spark generator. I replaced the part, tested the boiler, and it’s working again.

An L2 fault can have several causes, so it’s worth getting it properly diagnosed rather than guessing which part needs changing.

A 12-year-old Ideal boiler in need of some attention today 🔧

During its service, the main heat exchanger was found to be heavily restricted with combustion debris, so it needed a thorough clean and flush to clear the waterways between the heat-exchanger pins.

Once cleaned, the boiler was reassembled, tested and left operating safely and correctly — hopefully helping to keep it running for a few more years.

Regular servicing can uncover problems like this before they lead to poor performance or a breakdown.

🔧 A proper strip-down service for this Vaillant ecoTEC Plus today.

This 15 year old Vaillant was still working, but its heat exchanger had accumulated quite a bit of debris and needed a thorough clean.

The burner was removed, the heat exchanger cleaned, seals replaced, components checked, and the boiler reassembled and tested to ensure it was operating safely and correctly.

Regular servicing isn’t just about putting a probe in the flue—it can identify when a boiler needs more thorough maintenance and help keep a good-quality older boiler running reliably for longer.

🔧 Today’s boiler service was a little below ground level!

A Worcester boiler tucked away in a cellar, serviced and checked today.

Wherever a boiler is installed, a proper annual service is about more than just giving it a quick look over — checking its operation, combustion and safety to make sure everything is working as it should.

Haven’t used your heating all summer? 🔥

With September nearly here, now is a good time to switch your heating on for 10–15 minutes and make sure everything is working properly.

Check that the boiler fires up normally, the radiators start warming and there are no unusual noises or pressure problems.

It’s much better to discover a problem now than on the first cold evening of autumn!

If your boiler is due its annual service, late summer/early autumn is also a good time to get it done before the winter rush.
