An Introduction to Contemporary
Collage Workshop

I had a pleasure to teach the origins of collage, the history of scissors and glue, different materials and techniques, famous collage artists and some of my favourite books about collage on Saturday at Devonport Guildhall.

The session was filled with great energy, creativity, playful tasks and intuitive collage-making. We explored the work of well-known collage artists and some of my favourite books on the subject. The session included practical tasks, discussion and intuitive collage-making, with lots of interesting creative discoveries and accidents happening along the way.

Thank you Devonport Guildhall for inviting me to this beautiful place and for creating such a lovely space for creativity and connection ✨️✨️✨️

Preserving some of my best memories of Summer to look at when the winter starts and the colours of the world turn into the monochrome, and the soft and warm energy of sun turns into the stillness of the moon.

My Summer days were filled with nature walks, day naps, slow evenings and sea swims - finding beauty and magic wherever life took me ✨️ Lots of time alone and some precious moments shared with people and animals I love ♡

"The Message of Hope" Collage Workshop

Come along for a relaxed collage workshop exploring the theme of HOPE.

You will receive your own collage materials pack with magazines, books, quotes, images and other creative materials to choose from. Your artwork will illustrate whatever hope means to you. You will include gold and purple somewhere in your collage, even if it’s just a small detail.

The purple and yellow colors in a su***de prevention ribbon represent remembrance, compassion, hope and support. Purple symbolizes healing, love and honoring those affected by su***de, while yellow represents hope, positivity, life and a brighter future. Together, these colors raise awareness about su***de prevention and remind people that support is available, encouraging individuals to speak openly, seek help and support one another.

All artwork created during the workshop will be donated to "The Message of Hope Exhibition & Fundraiser" at Almanac Cafe Plymouth, helping raise funds for charities supporting mental health and su***de prevention.

By taking part, you will have the chance to be creative, meet others and contribute to a meaningful cause. Every collage helps raise awareness, start conversations and show support for people who may be struggling.

“Authenticity - Moving Beyond the Labels and Expectations of Others”.

Another nourishing and inspiring Collage Care: The Method workshop for Take A Part UK

This creatTake A Part UKve us an opportunity to explore what it means to be our authentic selves and how easily we can become influenced by the expectations and judgments of others.

We talked about the natural human desire to belong, while also recognising how trying too hard to fit in, can sometimes lead us away from our own identity and sense of self. We discussed how this can create an internal tension between our own sense of self and the expectations we feel from the outside world.

The collage exercise helped to explore these ideas. Through elements of collage, participants were encouraged to reflect on what feels true to them, what expectations they may have taken on from others, and what they might want to let go of.

The workshop was an important reminder that authenticity is about becoming more aware of who we are and giving ourselves permission to honour our individuality.

Thank you everyone who attended for taking part and sharing your living experience, knowledge and wisdom.

You can buy all "Collage Care" books for self-study at www.kanyerartcollection.com or Amazon.

One of my favourite things about collage is going through books and magazines and looking for connection with images.

I have sketchbooks filled with pictures I have collected from magazines over the years. I glue them into my journal - photographs, words, symbols, landscapes, objects - anything that speaks my language. For a long time, they exist as separate pieces and one day, they fall into a  larger story, becoming part of one of my collages. It's almost a form of visual documentation how I change and where I am at this very moment.

It's amazing is where the subconscious takes us. Without fully understanding why, we are drawn to certain images that seem familiar, like they have always belonged to our story (in some way). Choosing them isn't a logical process - it's intuitive. You simply know when an image is right. It is a gut feeling, excitement, a shift in your body.

Often these images are completely random, but they have always a deeper meaning - it only becomes visible when we trust ourselves enough to follow it.

Today, I am reflecting on my own Soul Garden...

Two years ago, following the Open Call for Art, "Soul Garden" was published and it continues to inspire me to this day.

The project invited collage artists to explore the theme of the "Soul Garden" through their own reflections on the soul, spirituality, life's journey and self-perception.

Presented in two parts, this zone duo celebrates the work of 63 collage artists from around the world. The first part presents their personal interpretations, while the second explores the Soul Garden as a metaphor for our inner and outer worlds - touching on cosmic energy, ancient wisdom, beautiful gardens, healing plants and spiritual practice.

It also includes meditations, visualizations, and an invitation to reflect and create your own Soul Garden collage.
