Mann Up - Upcycling

Mann Up - Upcycling Upcycling Crafts workshop in the Isle of Man. Mann Up is an upcycling workshop in the Isle of Man. Reclaimed Wood from Queens Pier Ramsey.

Working mainly with wood, I create bespoke indoor and outdoor furniture and other unique products. You can contact me to discuss your ideas and requirements, I welcome new ideas and can almost certainly build whatever you want. I currently offer two wood types which have considerably different price ranges:

1. This can be rafters/Joists and/or Planks which may be around 200+ years old and require

s a LOT more preparation and restoration before it can be used. The type of wood is mainly "Greenheart" (read more about it here https://www.wood-database.com/greenheart) which is one of - if not the - densest woods in the world and is very tricky and time consuming to work with, hence the products are more expensive. It is also one of the most durable wood types and especially robust in marine applications, hence its use in the pier and around the world for similar marine structures. The colours of this wood are various beautiful shades of orange/brown and I finish the products with an expensive but excellent special hardwood oil which will prevent "greying" from the sun and keep the colours fresh for much longer. A 10% DONATION ON EVERY PIER WOOD PRODUCT SOLD GOES TO THE QUEENS PIER RESTORATION FUND.

2. Reclaimed Wood from Pallets

Pallets come in many shapes and sizes but also many different wood types. Whilst my pallet wood products are cheaper than the Pier wood products, they do still come at a price. Pallets have to be carefully taken apart as they are specifically designed not to come apart. The many nails that hold them together are ribbed and because of this the wood tends to split if not done properly and carefully. This and the fact that the wood is almost always very rough cut timber makes it again quite a lengthy process to reclaim and restore ready for use, however it is mostly easier and less time consuming to work with than Pier wood. Colours can vary quite a bit depending on the type of wood and sometimes you get a beautiful grain and finish. I make certain that all pallet wood I use has been Heat treated and no chemicals were used in their production. Depending where you will want to use the product, I can offer them as bare wood or i can treat the wood with a clear preservative finish at an extra cost. Please feel free to contact me with ANY ideas or wishes you have.

Wednesdays showing of "Grandad & the pier" by Films in Peel at Peel Centenary Centre was absolutely awesome and thanks to them I was given an opportunity to exhibit some of my finest work there.

Some of my clocks were sold and perhaps what chuffed me most was that "Grandad", the man with the dream of restoring the pier, star of the film & founder of the QPRT bought my very best clock! (The tall one with Mona's Isle docked at the end of the pier - I'll have to make more of these as I want one myself πŸ˜„).

Many thanks to Janis of Janis & Jenny Stained and Decorative Glasswork for her invaluable help, encouragement & support and as always thanks to the team from the Queens Pier Restoration Trust for their continous work in restoring arguably the most precious engineering feat of our island! (and for the wood of course πŸ™‚)

For anyone who hasn't had the ultimate pleasure of seeing the wonderfully cinematic film "Grandad and the pier", I highly recommend you look out for the next showing. Not sure where or when it might show again but it's a must see, heart warming film, the cinematography of which is easily on par with Hollywood!
