For this build the requirements asked for functionality, an aesthetic that paired with the existing interior and mobility that reliably works but isn’t overly obvious. All subtle details to address and ensure we deliver.
It’s that kind of stuff that gets you out of bed in the morning and makes the commute a good thing! Gotta love bespoke solutions 😁.

We worked with recently to produce a pair of mobile mirror units for the salon’s hairdressers. Back to back mirrors with cupboards in 18mm Birchply fitted with castors for freedom to switch up the salon floor layout.

Not enough time to accommodate media content recently, so here is the second of three from a project completed a few weeks ago.
A hallway shelving and cupboard build in three parts. The central focus was an original piece of painted glass from the client’s grandfather’s pub. Vaux (pronounced Vorx) was a Derbyshire ale. The plan was to build a lighbox behind the glass to give it a focus on the hallway and then build a pair of bookrests beneath in response to the client brief. Colour accents on the cupboard handles were RAL coded to match the glasswork.

A bookcase in three parts for a Victorian townhouse landing. Integrated LED lighting and custom adjustable bookrests, yes that’s plural. A pair of bookrests centre stage beneath a vintage Derbyshire ale backlit glass panel. What a job. Sliding door cabinets along the bottom of each unit, shelves above. An absolute nightmare to photograph because it is literally the length of the hallway. But a joy to realise fully and sign off as a finished project.

Been I bit busy and never posted the final shot of the secret door/false bookshelf.

Here it is in context. Just a sunken bookshelf on the hallway…or is it?
Look closely and you will see two eye holes hidden in the fretwork. So you can peek out of your secret reading room when your on holiday in this cool Airbnb place in the Peaks.

Sound on for a gorgeous piece of door catch action.
Second video on the secret door to showcase the spy hole. Gotta have a spy hole for a secret room right?

A short video to capture this joyful project now that it is installed, decorated and fully operational.
It has been the single most challenging build EVER! Trying to get a bookcase to behave as a door is almost impossible. Then making the door element hidden is trickier still AND then making the whole thing look and operate with ease and like it’s always been there was a huge challenge BUT…so worth it.
How many people can say they built a secret bookcase door with a false book handle? Not many but I can which is pretty cool in my book. 😁😁😁

Quirky shapes and peculiar floor heights lay in waiting with this job. I like making things that solve problems though. And a big handle for a pair of small hands to operate the stairs safely.
Form before function or does function drive form? Either way it stands apart from it’s surroundings, hopefully in a good way.

Here’s the fold down staircase in context. Now the kids can move safely in and out of the playroom. Each tread is supported with a Furnica gas strut to assist the folding action-up and down which gives the children their independence over playing.

Here’s a solution to a strange Victorian problem…when you built a room three feet above the hallway! Who does that?
I love a problem that needs solving though, cue a list as long as your arm. Access is needed to the built in cupboards and occasionally the drawers so no permanent fixture please. Need to get in and out of bedroom easily. Needs to stack out of the way when not in use, needs to allow the door to open over it. Needs to be child safe. Needs to be operated by children. Should probably look cool too!

Job done I reckon. 🤘🏼
