Hello to new followers from Knit + Stitch - what a week that was! In all the busy-ness time has crept up so I feel it’s my duty to let you know that it’s your…

This year my 12 days of Christmas festive box is based on iconic love songs - it’ll feature artwork, musings and links to 12 of my favourite romantic tracks, along with some little gifts. I have a few yarn bases available as well as fibre/batt options.

Here’s a picture set of me wearing ’s calender shawl design - knitted with hand spun fibre from last year’s box (which was based on 12 visual artists). The fibre tends to spin up more muted but if youre after more saturation then go for a yarn box or batts.

Hello! As usual I’m a little late with this but I have a few pairs of tickets to give away for the Knit + Stitch in London next weekend at Alexandra Palace.

If you would like to come, but find the cost would be a barrier to you, please send me a DM and I can get you a ticket either for just yourself, or for you and a friend.

I only have a few, so it’s first come first served, but do get in touch if you’d like to attend the show!

Morning! It’s been a busy start to the month, so I’m a little late but here is August’s Song of Solidarity, Resistance and Rebellion. August is a time where many countries across the world celebrate their independence from Britain, Jamaica being one of them.

I’ve wanted to include Bob Marley for a long time, but have just been waiting for the right moment. I saw the Wailers last year at BoomTown and this song made me cry.

It makes me feel connected to my Jamaican heritage, and to me speaks to a quiet persistence, and a call to unity. Singing together is something I think we should do more of, I get to sing tonight on stage with The Burning Glass and more often than not the crowd sings with us, and it’s moments like that that I treasure. An easy togetherness making moments of beauty and a reminder of our humanity. If you’d like to join the club for next month you can by going to our website.

Finished garment post! Inspired my I decided to join her Knit-along to make myself a dress for my little brother’s wedding. I started in April, and finished a week or so before the big day. This is me doing a reading which coincidentally mentioned water as a few drops of rain started to fall from the sky. It held off for the ceremony thankfully so it could take place in this pretty woodland in Leeds. My husband in a deep red suit and spotty tie was celebrant and the wonderful interpreter in brown providing BSL access to our family. There is a flower arch with all sorts of pinks, orange and red blooms. My dress is a sleeveless boatneck in soft lime green and yellow, a fluffy skirt in the same colours and I’m wearing pink socks and gold shell toe trainers.

Showing off the dress earlier in the day before the festivities started and having a cup of tea! Got my fresh hair cut and a yellow band tied around my waist. Far building in the background where the Shetland ponies live.

Close up of the log cabin panel- I modified quite a bit from guide- she used worsted yard and garter stitch where I went for 4 ply silk and left over silk blends in stocking stitch because I wanted a smoother fabric. I had shown in the next pic!

The yarns before balling up! Greens and yellows in pure silk, BFL & silk, alpaca & silk fluff and camel & silk. I think the dress used around 3km of yarn!

First bit of blocking when I was part way through the front panel, to get a sense of how it would grow and behave. I happened to block it on a coordinating towel. The yellow and flowers of our bedding make for a good idea of how the colours would work with the wedding theme.

The simple pure silk panel for the back, I put in a couple of bands of different texture yarn at the top. I love how it shines in the sunlight. Also I was very happy to be knitting with silk during the heat wave- it was the only fibre that felt manageable.

A little fit check once the top panels (and side panels I put in due to fear of not being able to fit it over my big shoulders) I’m in my messy boat with little one’s drawings stuck in the wall, and the 70s style curtains that came with the
