God loves you ❤️
Last up in my new Psalm 23 Encouragement Collection is this beautiful red card, inspired by the concluding verse of Psalm 23:
“Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 23:6
The Bible is filled with verses that highlight God’s unending, steadfast, and unconditional love for us. God’s love is sacrificial, everlasting, and faithful. This verse reminds us that God’s goodness and blessings are actively chasing us wherever we go.
As I was studying the meaning behind this verse, I came across a beautiful illustration:
Imagine a shepherd walking ahead of his sheep. The sheep follow him, and behind them are two sheepdogs named Goodness and Mercy, chasing after any stragglers and keeping them close to the shepherd. The Good Shepherd keeps us close to Himself through His goodness and mercy, always pursuing us with His love.
Everything good in our lives comes from the hand of God:
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” James 1:17
Amen.
Goodness is God giving us what we do not deserve. Mercy is God not giving us what we do deserve. What wonderful news! When David looks beyond the days of his earthly life, he sees what comes after, the joy of eternity in the immediate presence of the Lord. Dwelling with Him will be incomparably better than the greatest joys we have known in this life.
Jesus is the Good Shepherd because He died to rescue His sheep, us, and He lives to care for us everlasting. Amen.
Psalm 23 ends with such a beautiful assurance, that we can enjoy the presence of the Lord forever both throughout our days on earth and for all eternity. Amen.
