So in the interest of honesty…
here are a few reasons we may not get on in real life 🫣

And from the bottom of my heart — thank you for being here 🫶♥️

When I started this account, I didn’t think anyone would follow along. I just wanted somewhere to escape into the world of interiors, and find ideas and inspiration for renovating our home.

I left uni with an interior design degree, fully expecting that to be my career — move to London, get a design job, live a beautiful life.

That didn’t quite happen. 👀

I don’t really talk about it, but my first role in a design studio ended up being a traumatic experience — the company was struggling, the boss was toxic and when I walked away, they had “lost” my portfolio. I’d won my own clients and done well for the company, but without a portfolio, I wasn’t taken seriously for designer roles, so I ended up going in a completely different direction to pay the bills. I ended up building a successful career in digital marketing instead.

For a long time, I just parked it.

But documenting this house — and sharing it on here — has reminded me how much I love it. The creativity, the problem solving, the all consuming design decisions…

And what I didn’t expect was this — a community of renovators, interiors lovers, and just generally bloody great cheerleaders who’ve given me the confidence to try things I probably wouldn’t have otherwise. ✨🤎

Whether you’ve been here since the early renovation chaos or you’ve only just found me… I’m so grateful you’re here 🤎✨🫶🥹

The bit no one mentions in IVAR hacks…

THE GAPS! 🫢

Ad. Partially gifted collaboration 🤍

Before starting this IVAR hack, I (of course) watched a few tutorials to sanity-check my idea. Most hacks focus on the standalone unit without uprights — so there’s no gap to deal with. But the ones I did find that included uprights didn’t really mention the open voids you’re left with unless you add a top. From what I could see… they were just left.

And with the bottom sealed, that felt like inviting dust and mystery objects to live there forever 🫠

So I had two options:
〰️DIY it myself (bold of me to even consider)
〰️Have custom tops cut exactly to my measurements and call it self-care 🤎

So, I chose self-care and reached out to .uk to explain what I wanted to do and they were great at helping configure the awkward shape I needed with their online tool. The oak-veneered MDF boards* were cut to my specs and made the whole process so much easier.

If you’re doing something similar and want to copy the idea, I’m very happy to share my exact configuration so the tops slot in perfectly.

Be honest — could you have lived with these gaps, or would you have covered them too? 👀

*I also purchased a matching desk at full price to tie everything in.

Green is a calming colour for my chaotic mind, it represents growth, balance, renewal — so why wouldn’t you make it the heart of your home?

Two years in and I’m still utterly obsessed with this colour choice. 💚✨

RAL 6015 (Black Olive) forever proving that even the darkest green can bring calming warmth into a space that is so important to our everyday 🌿🤎
