A little Cotswolds inspiration 🤍

A few days away, far too many photos and lots of ideas to bring home.

Gardens, food, interiors, outdoor spaces, lovely shops — basically all my favourite things.

I’m incapable of going anywhere without thinking “we could do that at Port of Menteith…”

And I’ve now got a whole plan for a January shop glow-up.

Behind the shop is my office — otherwise known as the room where absolutely everything ends up.

Need a dog bowl? Got one. Dumbbells? Obviously. A vintage Mulberry briefcase? Yep. Reupholstered restaurant chairs, piles of paperwork, samples, unusual art, a repurposed old desk… all present and correct.

It’s part office, part storeroom, part design studio, part dog quarters and occasionally a gym (that’s a lie).

A room full of things I love, things I’m working on, things I’ve rescued and things someone will definitely come looking for later.

You know there’s something special happening next door at Nick’s when the GreenPea Studio flowers start arriving… 🌸

Tomorrow is a rather special one — 40 years since Braeval first opened its doors — as always, we’ve called on our lovely neighbours at GreenPea Studio to make the place look beautiful.

Locally grown, gloriously colourful and just a little bit wild. My absolute favourites.

A favourite corner of the Edinburgh flat.

I bought this old bench from outside a junk shop in Montrose when my children were still in pushchairs. I can vividly remember trying to get it back to the car on my own while wrestling with a double buggy. Clearly I wanted the bench quite badly.

It’s followed me around ever since.

These days it lives in our little Stockbridge flat, with Weaver Green cushions and a runner — which I now stock in at Home, Port of Menteith.

And the umbrella stand? An old Perello olive tin scrounged from the chefs.

When your next-door neighbours also happen to be your in-laws… 🤍

Yesterday Lochend Chalets popped into Home in search of the perfect cushions for the stunning Cormorant Lodge.

A contemporary, luxurious space that really didn’t need much — just a little extra splash of colour.

These gorgeous Daisy Snow cushions were the answer. Pops of pink and green, a touch of contrast and suddenly the whole room feels even more alive.

Proof that sometimes the smallest additions make the biggest difference.

And yes… I will always make a case for more cushions.

Something happens to me the minute I step into Stockbridge…

Suddenly I’m a mad plant lady with a basket I can barely carry — and apparently four more cushions I absolutely didn’t need. 🌿

Plants and cushions. My two weaknesses.

In my defence, there’s always room for one more of both. 🤍

The older I get, the less I’m interested in rooms that simply look beautiful. I want them to feel beautiful too.

This room has evolved over time. The headboard was reupholstered in Vanessa Arbuthnott fabric, while the armchairs once belonged to my gran. Rather than replacing them, I had them reupholstered in soft bouclé, giving them a whole new chapter while keeping a little piece of family history.

I’ve never believed every piece has to be expensive. Original Jackie Henderson paintings sit happily alongside a La Poire print from Desenio. If the colours, textures and mood work together, that’s all that really matters.

The rooms I love most aren’t the ones where everything matches. They’re the ones that have been collected over time, mixing old with new, investment pieces with affordable finds, and family heirlooms with things that simply make you smile.
