I wanted to hand quilt some straight lines onto this very loose weave linen… but marking it was another story. Every time I tried, the fabric seemed to have a mind of its own!

Enter washi tape.

Who knew it could be so useful?! Apparently everyone except me, because this is genuinely the first time I’ve ever used washi tape for anything.

I simply used it as a guide for my straight lines while hand quilting - and honestly, it was so handy.

Sometimes the simplest little tricks are the best ones 🩷

Excited to share that two of my textile pieces, Harbinger and The Watcher Between the Worlds, will be featured in the upcoming Beneath the Veil exhibition at the Heart of the Tribe Gallery in Glastonbury.

This feels like a slightly different direction for my textile work, exploring mixed media with painted silk, photography, rice paper, machine and hand stitching.

Taking part in an exhibition is something I've wanted to explore for a while - a chance to experiment, push my work in new directions and discover where my textiles might take me.

Beneath the Veil runs from Friday 11th September until Monday 9th November.

A little behind-the-scenes from the hoop today...

One of my favourite Festival of Quilts purchases was something I’d been curious to try for ages, Sew Fine Thread Gloss.

And honestly… the Pink Macaron scent is delicious! It gives your thread a lovely, subtle fragrance while helping to condition and smooth it as you stitch, making it feel beautifully silky and much easier to handle.

I’ve been putting it through its paces on this little hand-stitched floral piece, using lots of tiny stitches and Aurifloss. There’s something so satisfying about slowing down, choosing a thread colour and building up the details stitch by stitch.

It’s the little things that make the making process so enjoyable.

July's Aurifil Artisan Challenge – "Let's Get Scrappy!"

This month's challenge was all about celebrating fabric scraps.

I chose to embellish a botanical machine embroidery design using the beautiful Kaffe Fassett scraps from my Aurifil Artisan scrap bundle, giving each petal a burst of colour.

The background started as plain calico with watercolour splashes, while the long, narrow fabric scraps became a flanged binding around the edge.

Finally, I used Aurifil Clear Monofilament to hang the finished mini quilt from a small found branch.

• Aurifil Lana Wool 12wt #8540 & #8520
• Aurifil 50wt #2605
