Reiko Kaneko designs Reiko Kaneko is ceramicist, designer and educator based in London. She works at various scales in a Martin's College.

Reiko Kaneko established her design studio in London’s East End in 2007, having studied Arts and Design at Central St. She was born in Britain but spent her childhood in Japan, influencing her products in an inimitable blend of English and Japanese style throughout the product ranges. Her love of ceramics has led Reiko to specialise in ceramic design and supplies bone china designs based around h

er typically British fine bone china tableware and home accessories with a Japanese twist. The collections are quite often produced by combining 3D modelling programmes with centuries-old expertise of our makers in Stoke-on-Trent, England. The city is known world-wide as the traditional home of pottery and, though much of production has moved abroad in recent decades, there is still a vibrant hub of industry that we support and rely on.

I’m delighted to be exhibiting for the first time at Ceramic Art London, if a little nervous. Most of my work is based on commissions where chefs have set ideas of what’s needed for their restaurant -mostly functional tableware with a difference. Examples of my past work can be viewed on my website under commissions - past projects. Ceramic Art London has given me a long-awaited opportunity to show some personal projects that explore my meandering thoughts and focus.

My antidote to the depressing news cycle is to focus on nature’s treasures, those who are with me day to day, and the life springing through every crack.

Decay is mostly seen as something to hide, tidied away or covered over. But here’s an example of its translucent and intricate allure. It’s become my habit to leave some hydrangeas to overwinter. Their ghostly appearance lends itself to painting with clay — Pâte-sur-pâte — giving it an X-ray-like quality.

I’ve also experimented with laser etching to good effect, but in the end I prefer painting them.

This beauty reflects to me, of those who have left this world, leaving emptiness. But the web, a proof of their colour, bright in yesterday’s sunshine.

I hope 2026 has started well for you.

2026 is the Year of the Horse – believed to be associated with energy and bold new directions. It feels fitting as I prepare to work on some new mobiles and larger scale vessels.

I’m writing to let you know that the webshop will be closing on the coming Monday. My focus at this time of year is on custom commissions and preparing for an exciting ceramics exhibition in London this year – more details to follow closer to the date.

If there’s anything you’ve had your eye on, now’s the time to grab it before the shop goes into hibernation.

Thank you as always for your support, and I look forward to sharing what I’ve been working on when the show comes around.

I’ve been obsessing over spider webs recently, keeping a close note of their imperfect beauty. This one suspends droplets of tiny baubles, reflecting upside-down worlds a thousand times over.

The studio is now closed for the holidays, but the webshop remains open. Packages will be sent out in the new year.

Happy Christmas and New Year to you and yours, thank you for all the conversations, support and varying projects. I’m ready for the new year and new challenges ahead

Looking back at an inspiring day of talks organised around rethinking “waste” as resource by and

Two things that stood out for me:

Having also visited talk over London Design Week, there seems to be a step change for young designers. Instead of designing just objects and spaces, some designers are concerning themselves with solving systemic problems. For example product circularity, using waste as a resource, and effectively becoming system designers. Taking the matter of wasteful resources and creating something positive.

My second impression was one of funding and support. are incredibly talented and energetic entity from Belgium, who co designed newest building. They’re an architectural practice but also manages waste streams from Belgium to produce rammed bricks, fired bricks and much more. When asked how they and the rest of Europe seem more advanced than UK, their answer was funding. They receive small amounts of funding as a start up and continue to receive larger pots of funding as they prove success. A HUGE thank you to for not only hosting the conference but also for making it affordable, so many of these conferences are so expensive these days… It was a truly inspiring day.
