It's a relatively small museum, in the grand scheme of things, but our visit to the Design Museum Prague was a wonderfully enjoyable experience.
We were greeted with a smile by a very friendly chap, who gave us a little history and insight into the museum and it's contents, before furnishing us with cups of coffee to enjoy as we ambled around the exhibits.
With many an iconic seat to be seen, along with ornaments, appliances and even a Vespa, the museum showcases a lovingly curated slice of twentieth century design.
These photos are a small selection of what is on display, primarily my personal favourites and upon exiting the exhibition, we were asked which our particular favourite was. While Charlie had a leaning toward the Coconut Chair, for me it absolutely had to be the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman.
Back at the beginning of our visit, we were told that at the end "there's a surprise". I'm still not sure what that specific surprise was, but on our way out, having never sat in one, I asked if I could take a seat in the Barcelona chair that was by the reception desk. "Of course" was the reply and and to my surprise... it was not that comfortable. Maybe that was the surprise - iconic design does not necessarily equal iconic comfort. I hope one day I'll have the opportunity to sit in an Eames Lounge Chair and discover that does tick all the boxes.
So if you're a fan of twentieth century design (especially chairs) and you find yourself in Prague, we can highly recommend you take a visit to the Design Museum Prague. We had a lovely time there and hopefully we'll get the opportunity to return someday. 😁
