Design shouldnā€™t ask people to adapt to the space. The space should work harder to support the people within it.

Thatā€™s why we champion inclusive design as part of what thoughtful design should already be.

Design beautifully. Design thoughtfully. Design for people.

Sometimes, we still need pen and paper! šŸ“

In a world where thereā€™s a gadget, app or piece of software for almost everything, Iā€™m still very tactile when I design. Give me a tape measure, a pen and a piece of paper and Iā€™m happy šŸ˜†

Are there quicker and far more sophisticated ways to produce a floor plan? Absolutely.

But for me, the first sketch isnā€™t really about producing the perfect floor plan. Itā€™s about thinking.

Putting pen to paper helps me understand the room. How people will move through it, what needs to sit where, what isnā€™t working and where the opportunities might be. I can scribble, cross things out, add notes and work through ideas without worrying about making anything look polished yet.

The digital drawings come later.

For now, this slightly scruffy little sketch is where the design begins šŸ¤.

Yesterday was one of those days, I will not forget in a hurry.

I spent the day at the The National Neurodiversity Shows at the Coventry Building Society Arena . One of the UKā€™s largest exhibitions dedicated to neurodiversity, and a room full of people who already understand why this work matters.

I came to talk about spaces. About what happens to neurodivergent children when the environment around them finally makes sense. About the difference between a room that overwhelms and a room that holds.

What I did not expect was how much the conversations would hold me!

Parents who have been advocating for their children for years, educators finding new language for what they have always instinctively known. Professionals who lit up when they realised that inclusive design could be a part of the solution that have been looking for.

12 conversations that I am still thinking about today

If we spoke yesterday, šŸ™šŸ½ thank you! I will be in touch very soon. And if you did not get the chance to come find me, feel free to message.

Tomorrow we will be at the National Neurodiversity Show, Midlands

If you are going to be there, come find us.

We will be have a stand talking about something we care about deeply, the spaces we create for neurodivergent children and young people. The sensory rooms, the calming corners. The classrooms and family homes designed around how a child actually experiences the world.

Tomorrow, we get to be in a room full of people who already understand why that matters, and we truly cannot wait!

Whether you are a parent, a SENCO, a teacher, or someone who has ever watched a child struggle in a space that was not built for them, come and say hello. No pitch, no pressure. Just real conversation.

How to divide an open-plan space without adding walls. Swipe to see how this floor-to-ceiling panelling architectural wrap defines the lounge and dining zones while adding incredible texture.

Clever Zoning, elevated. Seamless top-to-ceiling panelling from our Shaftsbury project creates a smart visual boundary without sacrificing an inch of floor space.

A media wall was on the clients wish list, but our job was never simply to follow a trend.

Every design decision had to remain true to the original concept: capturing the feeling of freedom, calm and perspective that comes from standing at the top of a mountain after a long hike.

The challenge was creating a media wall that delivered the practicality the client wanted, while still supporting the overall vision for the space. By combining concealed storage, layered textures, integrated lighting and natural elements, the feature becomes more than a place for a TV, it becomes part of the story the room is telling.

Before choosing colours, furniture or finishes, we had to answer one question: How should this room actually work?

The original inward opening door leading from the kitchen into the lounge/dining was replaced with a sliding door, freeing up valuable floor space and improving circulation throughout the room.

Positioning the dining area beside the garden doors felt more like the most natural choice, creating a stronger connection to the outdoors and making the space ideal for both everyday dining and entertainment.

The wider end of the room was then dedicated to the lounge, allowing for larger furniture pieces and a more comfortable seating arrangement without compromising movement through the space.

The result is a layout that feels more balanced, more spacious and flows naturally from one zone to the next.

Design the feeling first! The room comes laterā€¦..

What if your home could capture the feeling of standing at the top of a mountain?

For this project, the inspiration came from the clientā€™s love of hiking and the sense of freedom, calm and perspective that comes being immersed in the English countryside. Those moments of open skies, rolling landscapes and quiet reflection became the starting point for the design journey.

Before selecting finishes, furniture or layouts, we explored how the space should feel. Groundedā€¢restorativeā€¢spaciousā€¢connected to nature.

This concept board captures the essence of that vision through colour, texture and atmosphere.

But how do you translate a feeling into a functional living space? Youā€™ll have to wait for the next post to see how we responded to the brief.

Lighting isnā€™t just about seeing, itā€™s about feeling. Small changes can make a huge difference in sensory-sensitive spaces.

Getting it right isnā€™t about more fixtures but can change how a space is experienced completely.

These are Happy Feet sensory puzzle mats, and no, theyā€™re not just for disabled users.

Originally designed to support balance, sensory input, and proprioception, theyā€™re also brilliant as playful design elements, great to add texture to walls, movement prompts, or even under-desk massage mats in the office (your feet will thank you later).
Inclusive design works best when itā€™s integrated ā€” not hidden.
When sensory tools are part of everyday spaces, they support wellbeing for everyone, without labels or limitations.
Good design doesnā€™t ask, ā€œWho is this for?ā€
It asks, ā€œHow can this support more people, more comfortably?ā€
