All about Me!
I decided to create my own page to showcase my creative cuts and other handmade products. I started crafting many years ago and then I had my first baby - No Time for crafting! I soon became aware that I was suffering from mental health issues including post natal depression and anxiety. Then 5 months after having my first baby we were involved in a very serious car accident with left me traumatised of being in a car driving and as a passenger for years.
In 2017 we decided to have another baby. I put my crafting on hold and didn't really give it a moments thought and started to study from home earning myself a genealogy diploma. I slowly started to become aware that I was becoming depressed and instead of suffering in silence like I had done before I opened up to my midwife, who was fantastic and she got me into a wonderful group for others who have had similar issues to myself. I was suffering this time with pre natal depression. I had also been seeing a therapist for my PTSD from the car accident so it was not an easy time. With the help of the pregnancy group and my therapist I learned that I did not have to hide or be ashamed of my problems and every week i opened up a little more and felt like a new person.
I had met some wonderful life long friends in this group and our journey together continued after our babies had been born with us all meeting once a week. When going to some of the group meetings created by the NSPCC “Babies in Mind” we were given a scrapbook to create of our baby's’ first year (yes Charlie is 14 months and its still not finished). I found myself on Pinterest QUITE A LOT to get ideas for my book and discovered a world of papercutting - I could turn a single piece of paper into something quite magical by just using a scalpel. Its taken a lot of practice and many hours so far to get to where I am so far. Lots of my time after the children have gone to sleep in the evenings I am in my converted craft room cutting away. I like to design things myself but am also inspired by other artists and will purchase their designs and cut them myself. Making someone a unique personalised present is amazing and I love to see their faces when its opened.
I can fully submerge myself into just focusing on the cutting, just zoning out (until one of the boys wake up) Beginning this journey has done wonders for my mental health and anxiety and this year I drove on my own with the boys to the New Forest - A huge achievement as this is something i had never done before. I will even go across the Magic Roundabout without a blind panic happening. Seriously though, I will open up to whoever needs to talk about their feelings and issues. It has become a stigma in the past and mental health is real. I am in no way cured, I don’t think I will ever be but with the love, support and help from my family and friends I can try and overcome anything.
