Yet again, I find myself having to repeat something I have already explained many times before, but after being told by a keyboard warrior that I'm wrong, I feel it's important to say it again.
🚫 DISNEY, MARVEL, WARNER BROS, OR ANY OTHER MAJOR BRAND CHARACTERS 🚫
I cannot legally design patterns featuring these characters, nor can I accept commissions to make and sell them.
The reason is simple: I do not own the copyright or trademarks, and I certainly cannot afford the licences required to use them commercially. Companies such as Disney are well known for actively protecting their intellectual property rights.
What prompted this post was someone telling me that they have sold plenty of these items at craft fairs and that nothing has happened to them (yet). Unfortunately, that doesn't make it legal, and it certainly isn't advice I would ever follow or encourage others to follow.
As a business owner, I work incredibly hard to build my business the right way, and I prefer to sleep at night knowing I am operating within the law rather than taking risks that could have serious consequences.
To the individual concerned, I have retained screenshots of the conversation before you chose to block me. If required, I would have no hesitation in providing them to the relevant copyright holders.
Please don't encourage others to ignore copyright laws simply because you've been fortunate enough not to face any consequences so far. The crochet community is full of talented designers creating original work, and that's what we should be celebrating and supporting. 🧶❤️
Thank you to everyone who understands and respects the importance of copyright and intellectual property rights.
