They are often created as offerings of gratitude, hope and love.

So here’s a small heart sent out to you today. Take whatever you need from it; joy, courage, creativity or kindness and leave a little behind for the next person. ā¤ļøšŸ„°ā¤ļø

I’m delighted to see my painting Splash! on the front cover of Valley Life Magazine (Calderdale) for their June/July edition.

It depicts the Rochdale Canal and towpath between Todmorden and Hebden Bridge (though local pedants may wish to point out that technically it is still Tod!)

Inspired by walks along the canal with Hector, looking at the beautiful leafy reflections and seasonal changes on the water, it’s a painting that captures a fleeting moment in a quiet corner of the valley; just before a certain black dog makes a very big splash!

Thank you to Valley Life for featuring it. It’s really a pleasure to see a little piece of the Upper Calder Valley splashed across the cover this month. šŸ’ššŸŽØšŸ«Ÿ

Back from France and back to the drawing board. Or, in this case, Adobe Photoshop! This is a section of a map I am creating for the lovely people of Todmorden, West Yorkshire.

Found this gem of a museum on Naive Art at the MusĆ©e Des Arts NaĆÆfs et Populaires in NoyĆ©s-sur-Serein. I’m very drawn to folk art, probably because it communicates something important so directly and honestly. It’s less about painterly skill and more about the story. There is an honesty to that which deeply resonates. Looking around these rooms reminds me that art doesn’t always need to be clever or technically brilliant. Sometimes it simply needs to tell the truth as the artist sees it and that is a kind of brilliance, cleverness in itself.

One house portrait sent from Annecy in France headed to this lovely Somerset farm, complete with the welcoming party at the door; an Aberdeen Angus and adorable Jack Russell! The portrait came with a mount, board and protective wrapping! As always, a lovely commission from start to finish and my studio was a woodland idyll, complete with lake and sunshine in St Quirin, France. Here are a few things my lovely customer said ā€˜We couldn’t be happier with the painting Harriet created of my sister’s house. From start to finish, Harriet was an absolute joy to work with. Her communication over email was fantastic and she kept us updated at every step.ā€ Crossing fingers his sister likes it too šŸ¤žšŸ»

10 quick facts about me šŸŽØ

1. I paint houses, buildings and places with stories to tell.
2. I’m a student of the wu wei approach to creativity; less forcing, more flowing.
3. Je suis un peu francophile and just love wandering around ancient hilltop villages in France, here are a few photos of our current adventures in our little camper van.
4. My favourite colour is green, especially the fresh yellow greens found in moss and spring leaves.
5. I love peace, calm, nature and quiet atmospheres, it’s the best place for creative inspiration.
6. I work mainly in gouache because I love the opaque matte quality it brings, especially for detailed painting.
7. I’m slightly obsessed with old buildings, peeling shutters and wonky rooftops.
8. I grew up in old houses surrounded by antiques. Many of them chipped but loved.
9. I love the smell of freshly cut grass.
10. I believe buildings quietly absorb the lives lived inside them.

What would be on your own list of 10 quick facts?

A typical ProvenƧal building is effortlessly elegant. The secret seems to be in the proportions. And the slightly peeling shutters and the sun-kissed stone. I’m loving the buildings in Provence so much I could just eat them! Anyone for cake?

Le CafĆ© La Nuit, from a different angle and looking very closed! But it was Arles, the evening was dreamy. The old town is truly worth a visit and you can understand how it captured Vincent’s imagination. Thank you for immortalising this lovely building with the twinkling stars above!
