I’ve been working on this seascape for a while and it has definitely challenged me! The storm clouds and sky colours were such a struggle to get right, but I’ve learned so much while painting it.

This is only my second attempt using oils, layered over an acrylic underpainting, and I’m really pleased with how the movement in the waves has turned out — especially the front wave 🌊

I’m incredibly lucky to have such an encouraging art tutor who keeps pushing me to believe in myself and my artwork a little more each week 😊

Art really is a journey… and I’m loving learning more with every painting 💙

Today I finally handed over this very special commissioned portrait to my lovely friend Vicky ❤️

The portrait is of her beautiful sister Katie, who sadly passed away in 2020 far too young. It was painted as a tribute to her and has honestly been one of the most emotional pieces I’ve ever worked on.

I actually finished the portrait back in February, but with house moves and life getting in the way, getting the painting to Vicky took much longer than planned.

Talking to Vicky throughout the process and seeing the many photos she sent me, I could really see how deeply loved and remembered Katie still is ❤️

One moment that really stayed with me was when the Sky engineer came to set up my TV after I moved house. He looked at the painting and immediately asked, “Is that Katie?” It completely took me by surprise that he recognised her instantly, and for a moment it stopped that little doubting voice in my head wondering whether I’d captured her likeness well enough from the photos. But more than that, it really showed just how much Katie is still talked about and remembered by the people who knew her ❤️

Today there were definitely a few tears shed, but thankfully happy tears too, because Vicky was so pleased with how her sister’s portrait turned out — and her message afterwards saying she couldn’t believe how much I’d captured Katie’s likeness honestly meant the world to me.

It’s always an honour to be trusted with something so personal and meaningful ❤️

After drawing Jacob last week, I just had to draw Joe too ❤️

It’s taken me days of tweaking and changing tiny little details because I always seem to find something else I want to improve 😂 But this evening, I finally looked at it and could properly recognise my handsome boy looking back at me.

I really do love working with charcoal, even if it means ending up covered in smudges from head to toe! 😅

It still amazes me sometimes that I discovered this passion for art only 4 years ago. I’m so grateful for the journey it’s taking me on ❤️

It’s been a little while since I’ve shared anything on here, so I thought I’d pop back with something quite personal 💛

The sketch on the bottom left is one I did around 4 years ago of Jacob. At the time, I had no idea I could draw at all… but when I finished it, I remember thinking “that’s actually him.” That moment made me realise there might be a little artist in me after all.

Fast forward to today, and the portrait on the bottom right is the charcoal piece I’ve just completed at art class. The brief was to create something connected to a memory that shaped who we are… (apparently not meant to be a head and shoulders portrait 😄), but I couldn’t help myself. Drawing Jacob again just felt right.

I’ve absolutely loved working on this piece, and the best part is—he’s asked if he can have it in his room 😍

Life has been a bit hectic lately with the house move and everything that comes with it, so my art has taken a slight back seat. But my art room is nearly there now, and I’m really looking forward to getting back into a rhythm and sharing more with you all again soon.

I also have a special portrait ready to go to its new home (finally!)—it’s been delayed with illness and appointments, but fingers crossed I can deliver it next Tuesday 🤞 I can’t wait to share that one with you when the time is right.

Thank you, as always, for being here and supporting my journey—it really does mean so much 💛

I went to art class planning to practise portraits… and ended up painting a waterfall instead!

After missing a week, due to moving house, and instead of working on portraiture, I decided to paint something completely different — a beautiful landscape. I’d forgotten just how much I love painting water!

This piece had a little bit of everything I enjoy — the spray from the crashing waterfall, the sense of distance drawing your eye into the scene, the bubbling water moving around the rocks in the foreground, and the trees clinging to the cliff edge.

It feels especially meaningful as we’ve recently moved into our lovely new home, where I finally have space for an art studio of my own. There are still plenty of boxes to unpack, but I’m really looking forward to creating in a space dedicated to painting — and hopefully filling it with new commissions in the months ahead.

Sometimes stepping away from your main focus reminds you why you fell in love with painting in the first place. If you’ve been thinking about commissioning a special portrait or artwork, I’ll soon be ready to welcome new pieces from my new studio… and I can’t wait to get started 🎨✨

I’m really looking forward to sharing my latest commission piece with you all very soon 🤍

It’s a very special memorial portrait, created in loving memory of someone deeply missed. I feel incredibly honoured to have been trusted with something so personal and meaningful. I’ll share more about the story behind it when the time feels right, but for now I just wanted to say how privileged I feel to create artwork that holds such emotion and love.

On another note, today is National Cochlear Implant Day. I shared a post about my own journey on my personal page, but it feels just as important to acknowledge it here too — because my cochlear implant is very much part of who I am as an artist.

Before receiving my implant in 2019, my hearing had deteriorated significantly. Conversation was becoming harder, connection more exhausting, and I often felt like I was missing pieces of the world around me. Hearing my little boy’s laughter clearly for the first time after my surgery is a moment I will treasure forever.

My implant isn’t perfect — busy environments are still challenging, I rely on lipreading, and listening can be tiring — but it has given me confidence, independence, and the ability to connect more fully with people again. And connection is everything when you’re creating art for others.

I truly believe that our experiences shape our creativity. My journey with hearing loss has deepened my empathy, my patience, and my understanding of how powerful meaningful moments really are — which is exactly what I try to capture in every piece I create.

Grateful today — for technology, for resilience, and for the privilege of telling stories through art 🤍

I’m so excited to share my latest paintings with you all.
This month’s art theme was “look closer” — and I couldn’t think of anything more meaningful to focus on than my beautiful great-niece Margot.

I chose to paint three moments of her little life:
1️⃣ A content baby full of light.
2️⃣ A laughing and happy portrait where, if you look closely, you can just see her hearing aid tubes.
3️⃣ And finally, a peaceful painting of her fast asleep on her side, where her hearing aid is clearly visible.

Margot and her twin sister, Lowenna, were born prematurely. Lowenna is thriving, and Margot — despite facing a few extra challenges — is doing amazingly well too. She’s deaf, and in those early days she also had an intraventricular haemorrhage which didn’t drain on its own, leaving a small lump where she needed surgery and several procedures.
But now? The twins are 11 months old, full of personality, and absolutely gorgeous girls. 💕

When I gave these paintings to their mum, my niece Laura, she cried — in the best way.
These pieces were some of my most challenging yet. Not only was I determined to capture a good likeness, but I also pushed myself to try something new with looser, braver brushstrokes in the background. Portraits are never easy — skin tones are tricky enough, and babies have no lines or wrinkles to guide you! But I’m really pleased with how they turned out.

I hope you “look closer” and feel some of the love and strength behind these little faces.

I’ve entered a little cushion cover competition — just for fun! I’m not really expecting any to sell, but it’s always good to step outside your comfort zone and try something new. And with Christmas on the horizon, there’s no better time to give it a go! 🎄💫

Doing a competition like this hadn’t even crossed my mind, but Kirstie suggested it for the portrait or her and Mimi — and since I could enter three, I thought, why not try a couple more of my paintings too?! 🥰

Because the entries had to be square, I couldn’t decide which section of my Gannel, Newquay painting worked best… so I chose two 😉 — Glorious Gannel and A Day by the Gannel. And of course, I’ve also entered my latest piece, Be Gentle, which I thought would look lovely on a cushion. 💕(Click on the link below for more info)

It’s been so nice seeing my artwork in a new format — and who knows, maybe one of these designs will end up on someone’s sofa! 🖼️🛋️
