We’re never reaaly owners of old houses - we’re just custodians for a brief chapter in their much longer story.

Restoring our Victorian façade was always about much more than kerb appeal.

It was about honouring the craftsmanship, materials and character that have quietly endured for almost two centuries, ensuring the building is preserved for future generations.

Original double leaf oak doors repaired & restored: stained glass reinstated and Portland Stone steps cleaned & filled with lime mortar instead of cement. Important decisions that collectively protect the integrity of these remarkable houses.

The privilege of living in a period home comes with a responsibility: to leave it a little better than we found it.

Studio Botha has landed. ☀️
The name change became official this morning. Part of me feels sentimental about saying goodbye to Geek Vintique, which has been with me since the beginning but businesses grow, just like people, and the full-service interior design business I’m running today feels long way from the vintage sourcing & styling that first inspired me in 2012.
While it’s bittersweet to leave behind a name that’s been with me for so many years, I’m also excited about this milestone and all that’s still to come.
A new name - but forever the same person, values & passion behind the business.

If you’ve been put off marble for your kitchen, and told instead to go for Quartz - you’re not alone.
The majority of my clients love the idea of marble but believe it’s not worth the risk, having been told by mainstream kitchen companies that it’s not suitable for kitchen worktops.
I disagree.
What they don’t tell you is that they actually don’t want to work with it, because it requires specialist handling and installation, leaving no room for cheap labour and fast installs.

Our master en-suite is painted a punchy jade green to tone with the original mosaic Victorian floor tiles. (Swipe left)

It’s impossible to know whether a bathroom featured in this house when it was first built in 1861, although according to Chat GPT the date syncs with very early bathrooms & the encaustic geometric rich jade tiles reflect what was popular, so it is possible.

It may of course have been added later, either way it’s over 100 years old and quite damaged in places, ‘repaired’ over the years with badly filled cement but the preloved appearance is really quite stunning (although not to everyone’s taste, my Mum commented ‘such a shame you haven’t replaced this old floor’ when she first visited. 😊)

Finding a paint to work with it was really quite a challenge as it’s quite a bold colour and I wanted something that allowed it floor to pop, without competing with it.

Antique Jade 81 was the perfect pairing, together with Tiffany encaustic tiles in the shower.

All the plumbing runs around the perimeter of the room, behind cladded walls. The shower stands on a plinth to hide the pipe work underneath and the bath waste flows down into a flex pipe fed sideways into the adjacent wall.
