💛 BUTTER YELLOW 💛

Yellow comes in various shades including lemon, mustard, ochre, golden, dandelion and butter, to name but a few. I love yellow and in particular, butter yellow. It has an unmistakable creamy warmth and can give a different feeling depending on what it's paired with.

I have chosen six of my favourite butter yellow finds, and I particularly love number one!

Morning everyone 👋 I've had lots of new followers lately so thought I'd do an "About Me" post. As well as having a 37 year full-time career in accounts, studying interior design online in that time, and then studying colour further online, I left it to set up my own business as an independent colour consultant in 2020.

A few more facts about me below from left to right clockwise:

1. I turned 60 in January and treated myself to a small tattoo. I love music and dancing, they hold so many memories throughout the years that can never be taken away.

2. I have one sibling, a sister called Cathryn, as well as being a mum of five she works in a secondary school as a Pastoral Welfare Officer.

3. I'm not a mum, but an aunty to three nephews and two nieces, which includes a set of twins. I love each and every one of them with all of my heart.

4. I grew up in New Cross, South East London, and lived there for the first 29 years of my life. I'll never forget the wonderful times I had and will never forget my roots. I now live in Sudbury, Suffolk.

5. I used to ski and absolutely loved it, until I broke and dislocated my right ankle and spent four days in hospital in Zell am See, Italy. I have a plate and pins in it and haven't been since, I quit while I was ahead.

6. I started Line Dancing back in April and love it, I go with my friend Sue on Wednesday evenings. I bought myself these boots but am yet to wear them.

🙂 TIP TUESDAY 🙂

Morning everyone!

Farrow & Ball Hague Blue, a deep dark blue. But for whatever reason you may not want to use this brand, another alternative is to use a brand with a similar colour as opposed to actually colour matching.

I've seen across various forums I belong to the pros and cons of colour matching, I can't personally comment though because I've never colour matched myself.

The Dulux trade colour is classed as virtually indistinguishable, but If you fall in the cons category of colour matching this may be the answer if you love the Farrow & Ball colour palette.

Being an independent colour consultant I will always remain impartial.

🙂 CREATING A COLOUR SCHEME 🙂

Morning everyone! A description of how I put this digital colour board together and why I’ve done what I have below:

1. I start with an item of inspiration, in this case the bold wallpaper which will be for the top half of the walls.

2. I keep the rest of the colour palette to a minimum in this instance to ensure the wallpaper is the star of the show.

3. I echo some shapes throughout the scheme for cohesion as shown in the mirror and postcard edges.

4. I choose a paint colour (the background) for panelling the bottom half of the walls, skirting, architrave and door, which I draw from the wallpaper. Green is also a complementary colour to pink.

5. I pick a neutral for the ceiling the same colour as the background of the wallpaper, a pure white will stick out like a sore thumb.

I always do digital colour boards first when creating colour schemes for clients rooms, this way I can play around with colour combinations.

I then order samples of wallpaper and fabric to check that they complement each other, when I’m happy with my choices I look at actual paint colours.

This is a perfect example of just one of many Spring colour palette combinations. 🙂 TOILE WALLPAPER 🙂

Toile, known as Toile de Jouy, originated in the mid-18th century as a popular printed cotton fabric before becoming a wallpaper too. The word toile translates to cloth, fabric or canvas.

The style is defined by a repetitive, highly detailed rural or historical scene printed in a single colour on a white or cream background.

I've found two that are almost indentical in style, and are very similar in colour too, both having the same undertones. One is £35 per roll whilst the other is £148 per roll.

🙂 The Four Seasonal Colour Personalities 🙂

What I love about colour is how it makes us feel, and that we are all drawn to different tints, tones and shades. Every colour sits in one of the four seasons and each season has a distinct colour palette with the feelings of that season.

Below are four colour boards from each season featuring just some of the colours from their palette. Their colours will always blend with each other and there are so many different colour combinations you can put together from their palette.

From left to right clockwise:

SPRING - Joyful, fresh, uplifting

SUMMER - Soft, timeless, elegant

AUTUMN - Intense, rich, grounded

WINTER - Dramatic, bold, edgy

🙂 MOOD BOARD MONDAY 🙂

Morning everyone, further to my post on Friday 31st July this is my fourth colour board featuring the fourth chair, of which is my favourite. A patterned accent chair is a great starting point for a scheme and today's one would look great in a home office for a creative.

Accent Chair - Izzie at Anthropologie.

Fabric - Chakra in the evergreen colourway at Blinds Direct, this draws out the darker green from the chair.

Wallpaper - Dotty Leaf in the seafoam colourway by Ohpopsi at Wallpaper Direct. The small leaves echo the leaves in the chair but on a smaller scale to add interest, and they have tiny in dots too which echo the larger dots on the chair.

Wall Art - Flying Friends by Olivia Leino at PSTR Studio.

Filing Cabinet - Bisley 2 drawer foolscap in Bisley orange.

Vase - Doftbraken at IKEA.

Ceiling - A very pale green drawn out of the wallpaper.

Woodwork - A darker green drawn out of the wallpaper.

This is a complementary colour scheme of blue/green, orange and red and my TOP TIP when using a scheme like this so the colours don't fight for each other's attention is:

Use 60% as a dominant colour - In this case blue/green, being the wallpaper, blind fabric and background colour of the chair.

Use 30% as a contrasting colour- In this case orange, being the filing cabinet, wall art and detailing in the chair.

Use 10% as an accent colour or 2 x 5% - In this case blue and red, being the vase, dried flowers and the detailing in the chair.
