My current exploration into combining materials and techniques has led to this, a ring and pendant where porcelain ships meet organic form flowing silver. These pieces explore the sea as a space of escape and transformation, carrying history, memory, and the story of moving beyond what is familiar.

Studio notes:

Late nights in the studio always feel different.

Everything feels like it flows more. The day falls away, and takes away with it any sense of pressure or expectation.

I find it easier to create here and to lose track of time, to follow something without needing to explain it to myself or justify it.

There’s no real reason or purpose. Just the work, unfolding as it wants to.

I feel a sort of creative freedom that I don’t always find in the daylight.

It was such a privilege to create a collection inspired by J. M. W. Turner and John Constable for Tate Britain, two artists who have shaped English art history so profoundly.

Spending time with their work, looking closely, and drawing out the elements that spoke to me felt incredibly powerful. As so often in my own work, I found myself drawn to water and the way it can hold a sense of freedom, of escape, of something just beyond reach to go towards. Even in these familiar British landscapes, there’s a softness, a dreamlike quality.

I’ve always loved how water can be a metaphor for so many things. Each piece holds a story, but it’s never fixed because it becomes something personal and different, in the eyes of the person who sees it.

A few notes from the studio, written in a slightly disjointed way as I’m rather tired, distracted and hormonal.

Plates in progress, with small (tall) ships taking shape, the kiln is working steadily in the background.

The light has been particularly beautiful this week. It moves slowly across the studio space, catching on surfaces and highlighting the different corners at different times. I’ve found myself pausing to notice it more and wanting to photograph it.

I’ve been picking up my camera more often. Not to capture anything perfectly, just to observe and to document what’s there.

A month of experimenting. Of noticing. Of letting my work, and everything around it, evolve.

A little reminder for artists. There isn’t just one path, and there isn’t just one speed.

There is so much beauty in the learning, the experimenting, the trial, the error, and the growth that happens along the way. Becoming an artist isn’t just about the work you eventually produce but about the whole journey that leads you there.

The way I found my own path was through curiosity. Asking questions. Following interests and being excited about wherever they led me.

I learnt about pottery, history, chemistry. About landscapes and poetry and stories. And slowly, over time, all of those threads began to meet at a crossroads.

And I think that’s the main thing I’ve learnt about creativity, everything you love eventually finds a way to weave itself into your work.

There is a lot of advice online about how to become a “successful” artist such as what to make, how often to post, how to grow faster. But I’m not sure success is measured in views, or sales, or changing the algorithm.

To me, success is being able to spend your life creating what you love.

And the only way to do that is to show the world what you love.

In the end, the work we make is simply a reflection of the things that have moved us along the way.

It’s rare that I travel with my camera. I often feel a hesitation around photographing places, I think it’s a sense that I’m not at all a photographer, just someone who likes to play with form and light. But earlier this week, in Florence, I brought it with me. And I’m so grateful that I did.

The sky appears like an oil painting, soft and layered above the city whilst the river held beautifully glass like reflections, it felt almost endless.

There was something about the atmosphere, the colour, the stillness. In such a busy city I found the calm.

I don’t yet know how these images will find their way into a new project. But I have a feeling they will.

Here are some of the early moodboards and sketches from my exclusive collection with Tate.

I was drawn to the way water is depicted by Turner and Constable and how, when you look closely, the surface begins to resemble stones, rocks, veins and fractures.

I didn’t want my final jewellery pieces to feel like literal interpretations of the paintings. Instead, I tried to translate the emotion within them such as the weight of a storm and the softness of dappled light on water by studying the textures, colour blends and seams running through stone.

The final result is an abstract response to landscape and the work of Turner and Constable, rather than a depiction of it.

Some new samples have come out of the kiln today, here is a little glimpses of maritime history pieces in the making.
They’re only at the early stages of existing, but they’re on their way to becoming something special, cast into pieces of treasure rooted in story and place.
I can’t wait to show you how they evolve over the next few weeks.

Some recent platters from the studio.

I’ve been working with a few very exciting new stockists which I can’t wait to share more with you soon. These pieces will be heading out over the next month and sent off to new shops .

There are also a few new samples making their way into the kiln this week. If you look closely, you might spot a new crab design nestled amongst them.

I received so many lovely messages about him when I shared a glimpse on stories, so I’m hoping he emerges from the kiln exactly as I imagine. Pottery has its own ideas sometimes.
