Wabi-sabi is a Japanese philosophy all about the acceptance of imperfection, impermanence, and incompleteness, rather than chasing flawless beauty, it finds meaning in the worn, the asymmetrical, or even the unfinished, suggesting that imperfections are not failures to hide, but reminders that something is real
In a world obsessed with polish and the rise of AI, this is something I choose to live by
For years, I was riddled with imposter syndrome, that me and my art was not good enough to be seen by anyone, spending years trying to smooth out every rough edge of yourself is utterly exhausting, as someone who has been accustomed to masking for a majority of my life, chasing impossible standards of perfection was a constant and my artwork was another victim of that
But I realised my art being imperfect is what made it unapologetically me, it shows my journey in creating something I'm proud of, even if my younger self with shudder at the idea of showing it off, but I do hope she's even more proud of ne becoming my own boss and getting to draw all the time
Not everything beautiful was meant to be flawless, imperfection is what makes you fall in love with life
*As always, no AI image was generated for the sake of this video, these were all sourced from good old Google
If I have mistakenly assumed your artwork was AI, I greatly apologise.
