old times,
everything you walk on today has a meaning🌱

Castle Combe, nestled in the Wiltshire countryside, is frequently hailed as "the prettiest village in England"—and with good reason. With its honey-coloured Cotswold stone cottages, meandering stream, and ancient stone bridge, the village appears almost untouched by time. Dating back to the medieval period, Castle Combe once thrived as a centre for the wool industry, and today its charm lies in the preservation of that historical character, free from the visual clutter of modern life.

One of the key factors in maintaining Castle Combe’s postcard-perfect appearance is its strict ban on modern attachments to the exterior of buildings. Satellite dishes, TV aerials, and even street signage are prohibited to ensure the visual integrity of the village remains undisturbed. This commitment to authenticity makes Castle Combe not only a living museum of English heritage but also a favoured location for film and television productions, including *War Horse* and *Stardust*.

The contrast between "then and now" photos is often striking elsewhere, but in Castle Combe, it’s subtle—by design. Time seems to have paused here, thanks to conservation efforts that keep the village looking much as it would have centuries ago. Visitors strolling through its quiet streets are treated to a rare sense of historical continuity, where the past still lingers in every stone and slate, undisturbed by the trappings of the modern world.
