Where has the summer gone?!

I haven’t posted since July, mainly because I’ve had the busiest summer I’ve had in the last 11 years of running Sandlin Soft Furnishings!

It’s been a wonderfully busy few months, and I’m so grateful to all my lovely customers for trusting me with your homes. 🤍

I’ve definitely not been very good at stopping to take photos and share what I’ve been up to!

So, over the next few weeks I’ll be catching up and sharing some of the projects I’ve completed over the summer, along with little snippets of what I’m currently working on.

There’s lots to share, so here’s to finally catching up! 🧵✨

I’m not sure hanging curtains in 30°C was my best idea… ☀️🥵

But seeing these beautiful curtains in place made it all worthwhile.

Made in Ian Mankin’s Harvest Stripe fabric and finished with a scalloped trim, they’ve completely transformed the room.

This room has come together so beautifully. The vibrant pinks paired with the calming green work perfectly, especially with those gorgeous windows and views.

Featuring a hand sewn blackout Roman blind, embroidered curtains, and a bespoke lampshade, all carefully made to complete the space.

I especially love the pattern matching throughout, allowing the fabric design to still be admired whether the blind and curtains are open or closed 💕

Finished ✨

This stunning Roman blind is now complete — fully interlined and blackout lined for a beautifully luxurious finish. Although I have to admit, this gorgeous heavyweight fabric has definitely been tough on my sewing fingers along the way 🪡

One of my favourite details is the pattern-matched folds, allowing the bold design to be admired even when the blind is raised. It’s these thoughtful finishing touches that make handmade soft furnishings so special.

This blind will be paired with beautifully embroidered curtains 💕 and I’m currently finishing a matching lampshade in this fabulous fabric to complete the room.

I’ll be sharing reveal photos next week once everything is installed in its new home.

Following on from yesterday’s post, this is the slip stitch I use to attach the edges of the lining by hand 🧵🪡 Again it provides an invisible stitch and keeps the beautiful fabric smooth. If you’ve chosen a fabric you love you don’t want to be distracted by stitch marks.

An iced coffee close by, two fans working overtime, and a studio full of stitching on the hottest day of the year ☀️🧵

Here I’m hand sewing a beautifully interlined, blackout lined Roman blind. The interlining has already been carefully attached to the face fabric, and this stage is all about interlocking the blackout lining by hand using tiny invisible stitches.

These delicate stitches add strength, structure and stability to the blind while remaining completely unseen from the front of the fabric. The stitch positions are alternated between the interlining and blackout lining too, helping to prevent any pinholes of light from showing through. Luxury soft furnishings are always in the details.
