The place where we are born often becomes the silent blueprint for what we later call home.

I left my hometown in my twenties because it felt too small for the life I imagined. Yet every time I return now, I see the beauty in what once felt limiting: the simplicity, the stability, the comfort of a place that protects its traditions.

But stability has a paradox. When nothing changes around us, we can easily stop changing ourselves.

Homes can become like that too. We slowly accept things that once bothered us. We stop questioning what could be improved.

Change, however, is inevitable. The only choice we have is whether we allow it to happen to us, or whether we actively seek it.

Every place we live reveals something new about who we are becoming. And sometimes, leaving is the beginning of truly understanding what home means.

What surrounds us doesn’t just show who we are - it shapes who we become.

As I begin the search for my next home, I’ve realised this isn’t a practical exercise. It’s an identity one.

In the past five years I’ve lived in seven different homes. Each move taught me something I didn’t fully understand at the time: the places we live quietly influence how we think, how we move, how we rest, and even what we believe is possible for ourselves. Location alone, country or city, centre or countryside - already sets a rhythm for life. It determines how we spend our time, how we socialise, how far we travel for work, and how connected or protected we feel. Interiors then complete the picture, shaping daily habits in ways we rarely stop to question.

What I keep asking myself now is whether we are truly conscious of these choices. How many decisions about where and how we live are intentional and how many are driven by urgency, convenience, external expectations, a partner’s needs, or family commitments? And more importantly: what happens when what works for the family doesn’t fully support who we are becoming as individuals?

Homes are often chosen as compromises. But too many compromises, repeated daily, quietly rewrite our lives. Finding the right balance isn’t about choosing between self and responsibility, it’s about asking better questions before the walls are even built or rented. Questions about lifestyle, energy, focus, belonging, and growth. About whether a space supports the person we are now, and the one we hope to become.

I’m sharing this search openly, not because I have answers, but because the process itself is revealing. The right home isn’t just the one that fits a budget or a brief. It’s the one that aligns with how we want to live, think, and evolve.

As Seen in Movies — Bugonia

At first, I noticed them the way we always do, for their beauty, their iconic flare and quiet authority.
Then I understood.....That’s when the film became more interesting.
In Bugonia, these objects aren’t simply placed. They’re cast.

- The Barcelona Chair by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe
- The Imola Chair by Henrik Pedersen
- The Czech Embassy Armchairs by Jan Bočan
- The Taliesin Floor Lamp by Frank Lloyd Wright

Cinema understands something we often forget at home: objects shape behaviour before they shape style.

Our bodies read spaces faster than our eyes.
We sit differently. Think differently. Breathe differently.

This series looks at the objects films use to tell us who a character really is, and quietly asks what the objects we live with might be saying about us.
