I haven't been sharing much about my work, lately ... because I haven't been making much. It's been a while now that I am going through the "crossing of a desert".

As I reflected on this, I realised that a lot of the motivations that were pushing me to produce art are not there anymore, and maybe for the best ....

But I had lost the pleasure of making ...

So this year, my goal is to find it again, in small or bigger things ....

Here is the protector of my house, sleeping on my kitchen wall : Mélusine, Mamy Wata, Yemanja .... sometimes snake-woman or fish-woman, with or without wings. She is to be found all around the world, through the most ancient times, like the archetype that she is 🙂

Train drawings between Bordeaux and Nantes.

I am always amazed to see how a few lines can get our brain to work out what it represents (or something else ! 😀).

My seat neighbour was trying to sleep on the small tablet ....

I wanted to try these "paint felt tip pens" as I wanted to cover the paper with opac layers of colours. This is a brand new type of pens ( ) I found in an art shop in Bordeaux at . It works for the dark green but not so much for the lighter colours as you see the colouring marks. Maybe I should have bought the larger size too.

Last May, I responded to a call for a small collaborative project with Tom Harris () : we would receive an object through the post and create something in response. The object was a rosary.

I don’t have a religion but I am spiritual and also close to the natural world. Christianity brought the idea of duality: minds and body are separated; we are separated from the natural world and man rules over it (and exploits it). As I am working with plants, I decided to research which plants would be mentioned in the bible and what were their symbolism and/or usage before the bible was written. Having such a short time was difficult. I couldn’t afford to do long research, so I felt a bit frustrated while having to select some texts.

I selected 4 plants which were mentioned in the bible. I selected some information about their use before Christ. I and made ecoprints or inks with them. For the presentation, I took inspiration and model (for the diagonal pocket) from The art of fold by Hedi Kyle and Ulla Warchol (excellent explanation for innovative books and paper structures !).

I hadn’t expected to be exhibiting within Backlit’s beautiful exhibition space for the evening, so it was a nice surprise !
I and really enjoyed everyone’s presentation of their work, the diversity in media and interpretation of the task and the group conversation, lead by Tom that we had at the end. Such a very professional, very organised and very empathic short term project, I was thrilled and very impressed ! 😊
