"Taken by the Canopy"
Artist: Gayatri Ramsaywack
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
Dimensions: 23.6” * 27.6”
Witness the harpy eagle as it captures a red howler monkey, a scene grounded in the ecological reality of Guyana’s rainforest. This composition focuses
on coexistence; stillness & control and vulnerability & finality. Life is sustained through death.
Beyond the naturalistic basis, this painting offers an exploration of forces beyond individual control whether that is natural, psychological or societal. The eagle is a representation of authority, fate or overpowering circumstance, while the monkey
portrays innocence, instinct or the human tendency toward vulnerability despite awareness. It asks to consider how power operates when it is effortless and what it means to be caught in a system where resistance is no longer a possibility.
