What does a lighting designer do?
A lighting designer decides where the light comes from, how much there is, how warm it is, and what it lands on. Which essentially creates specific atmospheres within a space.
Lots of people picture us choosing lamps. The lamp comes last.
A downlight directly above a mirror puts the brow bone in shadow. Two lights either side of it fill the face in.
A wall washer 1 m from the wall, on a 3 m ceiling, makes stone read as an even surface. A narrow beam very close to the wall shows every chisel mark.
A 10 degree beam at 2 m lights a circle about 35 cm wide. A 40 degree beam lights 1.5 m, which takes in the shelf and part of the floor.
The datasheet gives you the angle. It doesn’t tell you what the angle will do to the sculpture 💡
