I am delighted to have been selected as one of 48 designer makers who will feature in PORTFOLIO 2026/2027.

Supported and produced by the Design & Crafts Council Ireland PORTFOLIO is described as a programme that recognises designer makers creating work that demonstrates excellence in design, craftsmanship, innovation and technical skill at a world-class standard.

Established in 2005, PORTFOLIO has become one of Ireland’s most respected craft initiatives, helping designer makers, like me, to expand our network and reputation for Irish craft while also accessing opportunities in galleries, museums and international markets.

This image stayed with me long before I understood why.

As a child, this was the only book in our home.
My mother brought it back from the United States after years of emigration. Growing up in the west of Ireland, it became my first encounter with painting, story, and the human condition.

I returned again and again to the scene of Daniel in the lions’ den.
Not for the drama but for the stillness.

The lions were not attacking.
They were present. Watching. Contained.

Around the same time, I watched the natural world closely ,the structure of the pride, the role of the male, the quiet tension within it.

I would later dream of the lion for years, though I didn’t yet have the language for what it represented.

Looking back, I realise I wasn’t just looking at images.
I was learning how forces exist in proximity without collapse.

That idea continues to shape how I hold form.
