If I was designing my kitchen again, there are definitely a few things I’d do differently. 👀

After spending time at the .ie exploring the XL and XXL fridge freezers, it really reinforced just how important it is to prioritise practicality, storage and future planning when designing a kitchen.

I was so impressed with the Home of Innovation. If you’re considering Bosch, Siemens or Neff appliances, it’s well worth a visit. You can’t purchase appliances there, but you can browse the ranges, experience the products in person and chat with the experts.

A few things that stood out to me:
✔️ 11% more storage in the XL model versus a standard integrated fridge freezer
✔️ 45% more storage in the XXL model versus a standard integrated fridge freezer
✔️ Energy-efficient design
✔️ 5-year warranty
✔️ Made in Germany

Thanks and .ie for having me. a d

This is literally the moment I realised these were the tiles! ✨

The relief was real because designing bathrooms is no easy feat. Between tiles, sanitaryware, layouts and finishes, it can feel like a million decisions all at once. Especially when you’re trying to imagine a space you haven’t even lived in yet.

Looking back, choosing these tiles was hands down one of our best bathroom decisions. We still love them as much today as we did standing in the showroom.

Tiles were purchased from , and you can now see them featured in a design at their new Kilkenny flagship store.

Our tiles:
• Blade R10 Matt Rectified Porcelain
• Cosmopolitan by (Ammazzonite)

Our best bathroom decision 💯

I found 5 things in JYSK that I would buy right now ✨

🧺 This scalloped detail rattan basket instantly caught my eye. The soft Scandi-inspired colour keeps it feeling neutral and timeless, while the scalloped edge adds just the right amount of character.

🤎 This textured dark brown vase looks beautiful styled on its own, but would work just as well with dried flowers, branches or a few seasonal stems. A simple piece that makes a big impact.

🏡 This soft-touch jute rug would be perfect by a front or back door. The natural texture adds warmth to a space and it’s one of those versatile pieces that works just as well indoors as it does outdoors.

🍽️ These Scandi-style placemats were such a lovely find. I really liked that they weren’t oversized like so many placemats tend to be. The neat size feels much more considered, and the raw edge detail gives them a relaxed, effortless look.

🌼 And the star of the show… these incredible wildflower stems. I actually bought three bunches because they were just too good to leave behind. At £10 a bunch they’re not the cheapest, but they’re so full and realistic looking that they instantly elevate a room.

JYSK is seriously underrated for affordable homeware finds. Every time I go in, I spot something new to add to my wishlist 🤍

‼️Hi, I’m Ally, and I share the good, the bad, and the ugly of keeping a home clean, organised, and running smoothly. 🧽✨

Today’s tip is one that a plumber actually shared with me, and I know it might divide opinions!

He recommended pouring a small amount of bleach or toilet cleaner down household drains occasionally to help keep them fresh and prevent odours from building up.

I’m not a plumber, just passing on a tip I was given. As always, do your own research and use products responsibly.

Have you heard this one before, or is this the first time you’ve come across it? 👇

‼️Brushed brass taps are one of the biggest mistakes people make in a new build… if you buy the wrong ones 👀and yes I am speaking from experience 👌🏽

We’ve been living in our new build for 3 years, and our brushed brass tap in the master ensuite has not aged well at all. The finish is tarnished, scratched, and looking far older than it should.

Here are 3 things I wish I knew before buying brushed brass taps:

✨ 1. Clean them properly
Only use warm water and a small amount of washing up liquid. Harsh cleaning products can strip the protective coating and cause the finish to tarnish over time.

✨ 2. Check the warranty
Some quality brushed brass taps come with warranties of up to 20 years. That says a lot about how confident the manufacturer is in the finish and durability.

✨ 3. Bonus tip for anyone reading the caption…
Cheap taps don’t just have cheaper finishes. They usually have cheaper internal components too. Our plug mechanism regularly gets stuck because the internal workings are poor quality and made from cheaper materials.

I still LOVE the look of brushed brass, but if I was buying again, I’d invest in better quality from the start.

Have you had a good or bad experience with brushed brass taps? Let me know in the comments 👇

I found 5 things in Homesense that I would buy right now ✨

🌿 These decorative metal trees were the first thing that caught my eye. They come as a set of three and would make such a beautiful statement piece. I can just imagine them styled up a staircase wall. The soft champagne gold finish keeps them feeling elegant and timeless.

🚪 This heavyweight stone-effect doorstop is giving major Amalfi Coast vibes. The rope handle adds so much character and it’s one of those pieces that’s both practical and decorative.

🐑 This adorable rattan sheep basket would be so cute in a nursery, bedroom or playroom. Perfect for storing toys, blankets or all those bits and pieces that never seem to have a home. A little pricey, but definitely a conversation starter.

🖼️ This textured artwork was absolutely stunning. The neutral tones paired with the dark walnut-style frame made it look far more expensive than it was. The kind of piece that instantly elevates a room.

🪑 And the star of the show… these gorgeous armchairs. Beautiful quality, timeless design and the sort of furniture that would work effortlessly in so many different spaces.

Homesense really is one of those shops where you never know what you’re going to find, but somehow I can see why you would always leave with a wishlist 🤍

⚠️ INVALUABLE! If you’re building or renovating, you might want to include this.

One of the best decisions we made was installing three roof windows in our vaulted kitchen, two of them motorised.

During this heatwave they’ve been invaluable for letting the heat escape from the highest point in the house and helping create better airflow throughout the space.

We intentionally chose two motorised and one manual, just in case a motor ever failed. But if I’m being honest, I would absolutely recommend investing in the motorised option if your budget allows.

Our ceilings are so high that if we had to get out a ladder or an extendable pole every time we wanted to open them, we probably just wouldn’t bother.

Being able to open them at the touch of a button means we actually use them every single day. Plus, they can be connected to your smart home system for even more convenience.

Sometimes it’s the little decisions during a build that make the biggest difference to how you live in your home.

Hi, I’m Ally. I share the good, the bad, and the ugly of building and renovating so you can plan smarter from the start. Follow along for more real life lessons, tips, and things we’d do differently.
