At the heart of the Siriwardena Project, architecture and nature come together in quiet harmony. A towering jack tree, deeply rooted in Sri Lanka’s landscape, remains untouched, rising through the space as a living centrepiece.

A project by our partners at PWA architects.

The design moves around it with intention, allowing the home to open beneath its canopy. Light filters through the leaves, creating patterns that shift through the day, while the tree continues to stand exactly where it has always belonged.

This is a space shaped not around change, but around respect for what already exists.

The Merchant sits within the walled city of Galle Fort, occupying a colonial structure where the original fabric does most of the work. Timber detailing and high ceilings are preserved throughout. A central courtyard brings calm into the plan, and the rooftop holds views across terracotta rooftops to the sea. Restoration carried out with enough restraint to let the building speak for itself.

Fort Bazaar sits within the walled city of Galle Fort, occupying a building that had fallen into disrepair. The intervention restores what could be restored and rebuilds what could not, while holding the original footprint throughout. The courtyard layout draws from traditional house typology, centred around an existing banyan tree. Materials stay close to the site, cobblestone, timber, and cement, with contemporary detail introduced carefully and without disruption.

Situated on the banks of Koggala Lake, Villa Serendipity is designed around its landscape. Open verandahs, a lakeside pool, and interconnecting spaces create a retreat where water, light, and greenery remain constantly present.

A Project by our partners at PWA Architects.

Stone arrives at a project already carrying history. Formed over time, shaped by pressure and erosion, it brings weight and stillness before a single wall is built. In warm climates, it cools interiors and moderates heat. Across surfaces, it holds texture, tone, and quiet depth. Architecture built in stone feels less constructed and more settled, as though it has always belonged to the land it sits on.

Kumu Beach, Balapitiya: where architecture gives way to the ocean.
Open volumes frame the water. Interiors dissolve into the outdoors. The boundary between built and natural stays deliberately loose.
A place shaped by the landscape it sits within.

Set along Union Place, Luna Tower, a project by our partners at PWA Architects, is a contemporary response to its urban context, shaped by climate, proportion, and restraint. The architecture balances modern expression with the existing city fabric, contributing quietly to Colombo’s evolving skyline.

Layered facades, deep overhangs, and integrated greenery soften the vertical form while responding carefully to light and tropical conditions. Calibrated openings and shaded terraces create a tower that is not defined by spectacle, but by performance, comfort, and thoughtful urban living.

This project was led by Archt. Ravindu Karunanayake in collaboration with Archt. Gayan Karunarathne, with contributions from Mohamed Resath and Dharman Muthukumarana, under the overall guidance of Archt. Philip Weeraratne.
