A short story from Lusso Interior Fitout Studio that inspires!
Meet Amardeep, a skilled machine operator at our wood engineering studio in Bhiwandi.
He is with us since 5 years, and we have seen him grow leaps & bounds in these years. He had joined us as an unskilled helper with no knowledge of furniture making, and today he stands out as one of the fully skilled & shining machine operators at our studio.
Tragically, Amardeep lost his father at a very young age in the Mumbai train blasts of 2006. He couldn't take much formal education, since he was laden with the pressure to earn as well. He supports his mother and family back in the village with his earnings. In the 5 years he has worked with us, he has gone to his village only twice, since every rupee counts to him.
He has grown rapidly at Lusso, and today he can manage even the most complex machinery at our studio, the multi boring machine.
Amardeep is an inspiration to all of us. He has that passion to go beyond the brief, and constantly tries to do new things.
With his limited means and support from one of his uncles and Lusso, he has successfully bought a small flat on the outskirts of Mumbai! People spend a lifetime to buy a home in or around Mumbai, and Amardeep did it in just 5 years, thanks to his resilience, passion and drive to grow.
He is currently trying to learn English and pick up the AutoCAD software, so that he can design and make drawings for furniture as well.
Here is a temple he recently made for his new flat. He used whatever cut pieces of materials were available at factory for this. These were leftover cut pieces after we made finished furniture from them. They would have been scrapped away by us in normal course. He picked up pieces from there, designed this temple for himself and made this post factory hours over a few nights.
While the temple is a basic one, and there is nothing fancy about it, it is impossible to say that it has been made fully out of stuff which would have otherwise been thrown into scrap!
I was stunned to see how he pulled this of!
Employees like Amardeep inspire us to do better and innovate. He is never at ease. He is always thinking about taking that next step, about raising the bar, and about how something can be done differently. Innovation, attitude and passion cannot be taught. God gifts you with them. Formal education can hone your skills, but attitude, resilience and innovation are intrinsic. You either have it in you, or you don't.
Amardeep has now given us the idea of creating small pieces of furniture out of cut pieces lying at factory (which we otherwise dispose off as scrap), and donating them wherever we can. We generate a lot of these cut pieces, and we shall now actually put it to good use, thanks to Amardeep.
