The Nerine ‘Pink Jewel’ flower naturally grows in the coastal and rocky regions of South Africa, where the climate is mild, dry in summers, and slightly moist in winters. It prefers full sun and temperatures around 60–75°F, thriving best in well-drained, sandy or loamy soil. To grow it, plant healthy bulbs in spring or early fall about 3–4 inches deep and 6–8 inches apart. Mix the soil with compost and bone meal, and add a balanced fertilizer like NPK 5-10-10 at planting. Water lightly after planting, then only when the soil feels dry. Blooms usually appear in late summer to fall.
Common issues include bulb rot from overwatering, aphids, spider mites, and fungal infections. Prevent these by ensuring excellent drainage, using neem oil or insecticidal soap for pests, and copper fungicide if needed. Avoid heavy, soggy soil at all costs. For care, remove spent flowers (deadheading), allow leaves to die back naturally, and feed lightly during the growing season.
This flower is special for its shimmering pink, jewel-like blooms that make stunning cut arrangements and attract pollinators like bees. It’s also loved for its resilience and elegant late-season color in gardens.
