I spent the last week glazing, brushing scratching: a part of the process that I incredibly like. Finally we are down to a comfortable warm summer temperature, so it was great to sit outside and work away in the shadows at La Meridiana School of Ceramics

Still not finished, and I have to clean up all the pots, but hopefully ready to fire soon! And no, still not making red pots, these will change colour and hopefully end up brown, green, blue and white!

Guess what was my favourite game as a child?

One of the best things in pottery is that each of the steps leading to a finished piece is so much fun!

As many other small businesses, I have no idea how to deal with the new crazy EU packaging regulations, so honestly I'm not very excited about trying to update my webshop just to then have to exclude all of Europe from the possible destinations.

However, I have a lot of pieces in the works that I hope will find homes during the upcoming months, so I guess I have to cook up some solutions!

One thing for sure, you will find me on the ceramic market in Florence on the first weekend of October Fiera Internazionale della Ceramica

An autumn trip to italy so I don't need to ship? 😅

These are some of the glazes I'm planning on using. Scroll to the last photo to see the color palette that I choose as my inspiration!

For context:

One day I saw a small black lake in the forest in a crack between two large rocks with no visible stream leading in or leading out.

The surface was completely smooth as a mirror and a group of small fish whirled around in the deep blackness, shiny bodies moving silently in an aimless spiral down and up again. Where do they came from? How do they survive?

Just a girl, out in the fields checking if her color palette is matching her subject close enough.

(Yes, my neighbours start to realize that I am strange.)

We just finished the first week of "Summer Throwing" at La Meridiana School of Ceramics. The sweetest group of students, everyone is very friendly and putting in a great effort to learn. Beautiful long summer days and I am working together with Franco assisted by the great Ossel .jan, it's so easy to be in the studio with such a nice people, can't wait week two!

1 Handle day
2 So many small corrections to hand positions when you want to move the clay just right
3 Our test cylinders drying in the sun
4 Demo moment with Franco
5 It's crazy to think that on Monday we were learning to make cylinders and on Thursday we filled the kilns with pots ready for bisque fire
6 These flowers are hanging just outside the studio windows, they are so beautiful!

...And this is how the snapshot of plants from my previous post looks like recreated on dinneware. A simple roadside w**d immortalized by the heat of the kiln.

For anyone interested, the plant is called blue vetch, or Vicia Cracca, which would be a very good name for a witch living in the forest if you ask me.

Very simple small cups with grasses. They came out of the kiln today and I am really pleased with them, even though the second layer turned out too thin. An added joy that they were placed in the kiln by luck in a way that the reduction was not completely even, so they have slightly differents shades of green-brown.
