A prime example of how we eat here in Puglia on any given Saturday. Tonight we went to our favorite restaurant with some friends from out of town. It’s called “Dal Contadino” or “From the Farmer”. It’s out in the countryside away from the city, and offers the best versions of all the classic pugliese dishes all in one place. We ordered ONLY the “house appetizers”, and were served TWENTY ONE dishes of fresh, local deliciousness. Most often, this parade of plates is then ALSO followed by a few pizzas or platters of roasted meat for everyone to continue to share, but tonight we were all just too darn full. For five of us, with food, drinks, a bottle of wine, and the cover charge for each person, we paid right around $90 USD in total. (Yes, you read that right)THIS is truly the definition of “la dolce vita”… ❤️

1. Capocollo di Martina Franca
2. Grilled sliced eggplant
3. Potato tomato salad with capers and arugula
4. Fresh mozzarella knots
5. Barley salad topped with stracciatella cheese
6. Pickled cucumber
7. Picked red cabbage
8. Mortadella
9. Porchetta
10. Scamorzina (melted smoked cheese wrapped in bacon-my absolute favorite)
11. Fried cheese croquettes
12. Fried meat/bread balls
13. Baked potatoes
14. Roasted peppers to eat with the
15. Puréed Fava
16. Zucchini parmigiana
17. Ham & cheese stuffed/rolled crepes
18. Tripe
19. Braised pork (in the MOST delicious sauce)
20. Fresh bread
21. Local olives

When are you coming to visit? I hope you bring your appetite…

Chicken, Green Bean, and Udon Noodle Stir Fry with Creamy Spicy Peanut Sauce. As much as I love Italian food, unlike the locals, I *don’t* actually want to eat it for every meal every day 😅 Thankfully I’ve gotten reasonably skilled at sourcing a few international ingredients that allow me to make things like this at home to break up the bread-tomato-cheese monotony 🥖 🍅 🧀
