Seoinn Design Group + Lee Eunseok: Saemoonan Church proposed four distinct church construction themes as basic guidelines; ① the historicity as the mother church of Korean protestant churches, ② the symbolism of doors open to heaven ③ the spatiality of expressing Christ as light, and ④ presenting a water space as a meaning of baptism and harmony. Hence, we adapted the themes with Loving God and Loving Neighbors and included them in the design. Loving God was mainly portrayed through the use and symbolism of the space, and the aspects of Loving Neighbors were expressed with the publicness through the external appearance and layout effect of the building that are revealed in the city center.

In the construction of Saemoonan Church, the conventional spire was replaced by a softly curved effect that is open to the sky, and the excessive ornaments were converted into simple and abstract expressions. In addition, rather than focusing on showing the authority of the church, the love and mercy of God were metaphorically expressed with the curve of the soft front. Furthermore, instead of creating a solemn spatial atmosphere with the common long corridor form, a new periodic worship space was proposed with a fan-shaped chapel plane that encourages the dynamic participation between believers.

STUDIO QI: ANNSO HILL, located in Heshun Ancient Town of Yunnan, is situated in a narrow alleyway lined with B&Bs and storefronts. The site is composed with two characteristically different lot spaces forming an inverted“L”shape, which begins with a compressed street front zone on a steep slope, and ends on a long serene hillside aligned with beautiful tall trees.

Rather than competing with adjacent shops and facades in elevation, ANNSO HILL chooses as its formal strategy to step back and react directly towards the landscape. Pressed against the hill, the roof shifts and climbs 30 meters upward, while the frontal tiles touch the very ground on the edge of alley. This approach, as a result, provides an open space for the public realm that is extremely rare in Heshun, as visitors and locals are drawn to any and all creative activities or social programs. This tilting geometry also adds a new trajectory of complex relationship that is perpendicular to the linear street, which connects both visually and spatially with the town and the“hidden”hill by a sequence of living conditions.

The backdrop of the forest is now visually brought to the fore, and superimposes with the overlapping roofs and walls. A new visual reading of a layered three-dimensional facade is thus constructed.

The entrance way cuts through the roofs, and leads the hotel to an“other”world. It is a play of ambiguity between roofs and walls , facades and grounds , elevations and plans; it becomes a design of an ”architectural field” instead of an“architectural room.”

With great anticipation, Louis Vuitton announces the arrival of Louis Vuitton Ginza Namiki in Tokyo’s Ginza district. The store presents an ambitious transformation of an existing location. Reimagined as an aesthetic dialogue between virtuoso architects, Jun Aoki and Peter Marino, an entirely new, naturalistic tower rises, inspiring wonder – both outside and within.

From the same corner siting, occupied by Louis Vuitton since 1981, the building’s highly modern appearance interprets the reflections of water as a material phenomenon. Poetic yet playful; shimmering and rhythmic. Once a peninsula extending in Tokyo bay, this evocation of water is expressed throughout as smooth, undulating surfaces – from the glass façade that transmits shifting colour to the feature staircase and fixtures. Spanning four floors, the retail offering is complemented by a permanent pop-in space for seasonal animations of new arrivals and an upper level dedicated to private salons. The store experience culminates in Le Café V, where celebrated chef Yosuke Suga collaborates for the second time with the House, additionally developing flavours for Le Chocolat V, the first-ever line of Louis Vuitton chocolates that will make their world debut here at the end of April.

Nordest Arquitectura: The assigned project consisted in the construction of a guest pavilion as an extension of the main house. Our first thought was to create a shape clear and simple, a cuboid placed in the middle of the forest, changing as less as possible the surrounding characteristics, as if it had always been there.

The pavilion is defined by a U materialized in corten steel with a slat facade that creates a retreat inside, a place to be and contemplate. The entrance is on the ground floor. It’s like a kind sculptural void inside the ground, you enter on it, then you upstairs through it to the pavilion. The inside is understood as one space: a living- bedroom space and in one corner there’s the bathroom.

The east, south, and west façade are totally glazed, with solar protection made of corten steel sliding lattice. The north façade has more controlled openings that illuminate the bathroom and the entrance staircase.

INS Studio: Located in Maros, a small town on the outskirts of Makassar, Indonesia, this project occupies a newly developed commercial district where the urban fabric remains relatively sparse, allowing the surrounding natural landscape to remain a defining presence. Conceived as a gathering space, the building is organized across three levels, each accommodating a distinct program while collectively encouraging social interaction, work, and community activities.

From the earliest stages of the design process, the architects envisioned a three story building crowned by an open-air rooftop garden. This decision was driven by the site’s orientation toward Bukit Cenrana, a hill that has long served as one of Maros most recognizable natural landmarks. Elevating the building above its surroundings allows visitors to enjoy uninterrupted views of the landscape, transforming the scenery into an integral part of the architectural experience rather than merely a backdrop.

The project also embraces a strong sense of locality through its careful selection of materials and craftsmanship. Locally sourced andesite stone, harvested from nearby mountains, becomes the dominant interior material, appearing across walls, flooring, and the coffee bar in a distinctive square pattern. These natural textures establish a tactile connection between the architecture and its surrounding landscape while reinforcing the building’s regional identity.

Heesoo Kwak and IDMM Architects: Buildings of the Gimpo new town, where everything looks as new, clean and as fresh as fishes caught in a milk bottle. Well-structured roads and districts look like a checkerboard that has never been used. Through local communities, this place is where ordinary lives and sentiments have just started to settle down and will attempt to engage with different urban cultures and establish its own identity.

The closest church is sitting on a corner site of Unyang-dong, Gimpo. Words like corner, edge and vertex connote the existence of more than one line or surface. The church has a façade divided by two conflicting with each other at the vertex of the site. One is a solid and fragmented concrete, proposed by considering the relationship with apartment residents, and the other is a transparent glass that opens views to the vast park and also to the church’s worship services. The chapel structured like the bleachers is designed to increase the capacity of the space built on a compact site. Small rooms are positioned behind of the inclined surface of the bleachers and on the top section of it so that the church can make the best use of its space. Especially, the outside stairs connecting the ground and the rooftop works as an important element defining the exterior of church, and the vivid movement of its users makes the church’s architectural statement more dynamic. The rooftop space which can host outdoor worship services is open for church communities as well as for locals.

RUR Architecture DPC: The Kaohsiung Port Terminal project seizes the opportunity to seamlessly blend the uses of a cruise-ship terminal, office tower and public space into a polyfunctional work of civic infrastructure that celebrates the critical threshold between city and sea.

Commissioned via an international competition launched by the Port Authority of Kaohsiung, the project maintains active operations at Taiwan’s largest container port while introducing a continuous public realm. Designed by Jesse Reiser alongside partner Nanako Umemoto, the building avoids mono-functional engineering, ensuring near-constant urban activity even when ships are out.

The Port Authority of Kaohsiung, the city and the Taiwanese ministry of Transportation were interested in creating more than a functional work of infrastructure and had the ambition for the project to initiate a shift towards the inclusion of a continuous public space along the waterfront, while maintaining all port functions. The goal of the project is that the Kaohsiung Port Terminal had to at once address the functional problems of the ferry and the international Cruise ship and become a destination for the people of Kaohsiung and international travelers.

M:OFA Studios: Government institutions in India usually follow a pragmatic, understated approach when it comes to the expression of their architecture. When Goa State govt. Floated an international level competition for the design of the National Institute of Water Sports in Goa, it wanted the institute to do two things: firstly, to make a bold, iconic statement with an expression that treats the architecture beyond the functional pragmatism and secondly, takes a fresh approach to the typical Goan Architectural setting a language that’s more global yet grounded while resonating the vernacular, through the use of local materials.

We started by categorizing the functional brief into bigger zoning chunks. While the institutional, administrative, residential, and recreational functions retained their individual zones, the space between them would be rather fluid and continuous, thereby creating these in-between sub-functions essential for those informal interactions between various groups of people, defined by their roles on the campus. For the overall language, we searched for an expression that connects the architecture to its broader context of the sea and the Goan town that resides alongside it.

The “Ivy” project was developed along one of the busiest corridors in Shiraz — a context where vehicular movement took precedence and human experience was largely neglected.

The design strategy centers on a fluid connection between the city, the building, and the human scale — a continuous flow inspired by the form of a climbing vine, starting from the urban fabric, weaving through the project, and extending up to the roof.

This gesture blurs the boundary between architecture and the city, creating a spatial experience that is layered, legible, and intentional.

Rather than focusing solely on form, the architecture emphasizes movement, light, surfaces, and human perception.

Ivy aims not only to respond to its urban context, but to engage the user in a space

MAST: A growing acknowledgement of sea level rise and an increased risk of urban flooding has contributed to a sharp increase in interest in building on water, but current solutions, including polystyrene filled concrete foundations and plastic pontoons are inflexible, difficult to transport and highly unsustainable.

MAST has envisioned a new system of simple of flat-packed modules made from recycled reinforced plastic, that can be easily transported around the globe and assembled into countless configurations, providing a secure floating foundation. The system offers a sustainable and highly flexible solution for building almost anything on the water; from floating houses in Seattle, to floating campsites on Oslo fjord, to saunas on Hobart’s riverfront.

MAST is currently developing a prototype floating pavilion using the ´Land on Water´ system and is looking for like-minded partners interested in developing innovative & sustainable floating projects.

Land on water was created by Danish Maritime Architecture Studio MAST with the support of Hubert Rhomberg & venture studio FRAGILE
