𝓒𝓱𝓻𝓲𝓼𝓽𝓶𝓪𝓼 is just around the corner and with not so many things left to do here in Vientiane, take that time for yourself or your kids to sign up for one of our workshops !
Mel is teaching woodworking (coasters, cutting boards, games, furniture...) & Lea is offering each week a new 𝓒𝓱𝓻𝓲𝓼𝓽𝓶𝓪𝓼 craft workshop (wood slices ornaments, mosaic hanging, advent calendar...)
All taking place in a beautiful open air surroundings at MDO Art Studio every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon until January !

CABINET - A RESTORATION 𝓮𝓷𝓰𝓵𝓲𝓼𝓱
To follow in the series of restorations, we were lucky enough to renovate an old Lao 50's piece of furniture belonging to a Lao Australian family. All it needs is new handles and it will be used as a TV cabinet! It was a pleasure to work on such a beautiful design with quality wood that showed up after sanding and applying beeswax. Thank you Peta for this great project!

MEUBLE DE DESIGNER - UNE RESTAURATION 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝓷𝓬𝓱
Pour suivre dans la série des restaurations, nous avons eu la chance de rénover dans la foulée un vieux meuble des années 50 lao appartenant à une famille lao-australienne. Plus que des nouvelles poignées et il sera utilisé en tant que meuble télé ! Un bonheur de travailler sur un aussi beau design avec un bois de qualité se révélant après ponçage et application de cire d'abeille. Merci Peta pour ce superbe projet !

BAGGAMON TABLE - A RESTORATION 𝓮𝓷𝓰𝓵𝓲𝓼𝓱
Thanks to this page and Laos small expats community, we had the chance to work on this beautiful baggamon's table restauration. The client told us that it was made in Laos a long time ago and that it was passing by from expats family to another for a while : it needed some love to regain its former beauty ! After a lot of sanding, small parts replaced, a new frame made out of teak wood and a final mineral oil touch we could all agree that we were honouring its creator. Thank you for your trust, Ait Geurts !

TABLE DE BAGGAMON - UNE RESTAURATION 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝓷𝓬𝓱
Grâce à cette page Facebook et la petite communauté d'expatriés au Laos, nous avons eu la chance de travailler sur la restauration de cette magnifique table à jouer de baggamon. Le client nous a raconté qu'elle avait été construite il y a très longtemps au Laos, et qu'elle se passait depuis de famille en famille : elle avait besoin d'amour pour retrouver sa forme originelle ! Après beaucoup de ponçage, le remplacement de plusieurs petites pièces, un nouveau cadre en teck et une touche finale d'huile minérale, nous avons pu affirmer honorer son créateur. Merci pour votre confiance !

All our cutting boards are now available at Le Comptoir (de Vientiane et d'ailleurs) every Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 1pm to 6pm, starting tomorrow !
Stocks are very limited but models are available on order. See you soon !

PYROGRAPHY - STORAGE BOX 𝓮𝓷𝓰𝓵𝓲𝓼𝓱
When the second lockdown was declared in Laos last 21 of May, we had the exact same reaction as 1 year before : let's create everyday and finally make projects we've been talking about for a long time. I wanted a new storage box for my woodburner for a while, as the old one was falling into pieces, so we decided to make the most sturdy and efficient storage box ever while having a lot of fun making it! Now I don't need to take out the machine, only plugging it and I'm ready to burn! It was also our first time making straight joints which was super challenging but 100% worth it 💪

PYROGRAVURE - BOITE DE RANGEMENT 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝓷𝓬𝓱
Quand le 2e confinement a été annoncé au Laos le 21 mai dernier, on a eu exactement la même réaction qu'un an auparavant : créons tous les jours et faisons enfin les projets dont on parle depuis longtemps. Je voulais une boîte de rangement pour mon pyrograveur depuis un moment, la boîte originale s'effritant de plus en plus, on a donc décidé de fabriquer la boîte la plus solide et la plus efficace possible tout en s'amusant ! Désormais, plus besoin de sortir la machine, seulement de brancher 2 câbles et c'est parti ! C'était également notre premier essai de joints droits, un réel casse-tête mais quand on a vu le résultat on s'est dit que ça en valait totalement la peine 💪

WOODBURNING 𝓮𝓷𝓰𝓵𝓲𝓼𝓱
The rainy season certainly has started ☔ bringing along a slower mood, chiller temperature and darker luminosity. The kind of spirit I need to spend my days practicing meditative woodburning while Mel is most of his time inside the workshop. When the rain stops, the requests for roof repairs come flooding in as the rain reveals the capital's shaky constructions... Luckily, Mel is an expert in this field! 🏚️🔨

PYROGRAVURE 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝓷𝓬𝓱
La saison des pluies a bel et bien commencé☔ et avec elle, le temps passe plus doucement, il fait plus frais et la luminosité baisse. Le genre d'ambiance parfaite pour se plonger dans de la pyrogravure méditative, pendant que Mel passe ses journées à l'intérieur de l'atelier. Quand il ne pleut plus, les demandes de réparation de toiture fusent car la pluie révèle les constructions bancales de la capitale... Ça tombe bien, Mel est un expert dans le domaine ! 🏚️🔨

OIL FOR OUR CUTTING BOARDS 𝓮𝓷𝓰𝓵𝓲𝓼𝓱
We wanted to create cutting boards for a while, but never managed to find a proper food safe varnish here in Asia. So, after much research, we ended up having this tiny bottle sent to us from Germany, costing a small fortune, with the promise of a perfect finish. Indeed, this product is specially designed for cutting boards with exotic essence! On a clean, well-sanded surface, generously apply a coat with the cloth provided, let the wood saturate with oil for 15 minutes and then wipe off the excess with a soft cloth.

TRAITEMENT DE NOS PLANCHES À DÉCOUPER 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝓷𝓬𝓱
Cela faisait longtemps que nous voulions faire des planches à découper mais nous n'avions jamais réussi à trouver un vernis alimentaire adéquat en Asie. Alors, après de nombreuses recherches, nous avons fini par nous faire envoyer d'Allemagne ce minuscule flacon coûtant une petite fortune avec la promesse d'un traitement parfait. En effet, ce produit est spécialement conçu pour les planches à découper à essence exotique ! Sur la surface bien poncée et propre, on applique généreusement une couche avec le tissu fourni, on laisse le bois se saturer en huile pendant 15 minutes puis l'on passe un chiffon doux pour enlever l'excédent.

Our first time making cutting boards was so enjoyable. Seeing two types of wood blending so well together and the light grip was enough for us to be super happy with the result! Number 2 is already sold 😌

PLANCHES À DEC' 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝓷𝓬𝓱
Créer nos premières planches à découper était un pur plaisir. Voir les deux essences de bois se marier si bien et la légère prise en main nous ont suffit à être super contents du résultat ! D'ailleurs, la n°2 est déjà vendue 😌

REPLACING EVERY DAY LIFE OBJECTS 𝓮𝓷𝓰𝓵𝓲𝓼𝓱
In Asia, if you're lucky enough to find a dish drainer in your rented house it will probably be in plastic.. This is how this order was born. We never thought we would buid a wooden dish drainer and enjoy it so much ! In the end, creating beautiful objects with a very specific function is something we were always attracted too.
We are more than happy with the result and are hoping to make more. It took 3 days of work, splatters of glue, many drying hours and a very happy costumer !

REMPLACER LES OBJETS DU QUOTIDIEN 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝓷𝓬𝓱
En Asie, si vous êtes assez chanceux pour trouver un égouttoir dans votre maison, il sera très probablement en plastique.. c'est comme ça que cette commande est née. On n'aurait jamais pensé à faire un égouttoir en bois et autant apprécier ! Finalement, créer de beaux objets avec une fonction bien précise nous a toujours attiré. Nous sommes plus que contents du résultat et espérons en faire de nouveau. Résultat : 3 jours de boulot, beaucoup de colle et de temps de séchage et une cliente ravie !
