A space with no walls of its own. Its limits are set by four bounding planes, each with a different relationship to light.
The slatted black wood cladding is a solid plane. It absorbs the light that reaches it and stops the sightline, so circulation moves around it.
The metal partition is a permeable screen. It marks the threshold between passage and dining while sightlines and daylight pass through its open cells.
Black stands fixed.
The oak veneer cladding is the other solid plane, but it returns light to the space. One recessed niche, lit from above, breaks its surface and holds a single sculpture.
The tinted glass works by reflection. The space returns to itself in a darker register and reads deeper than its plan.
The volume closes in section, not in plan. The space is resolved above and below, before any wall is asked for.
