A unique golden snuffbox featuring the portrait of the distinguished Russian admiral Count Semyon Ivanovich Mordvinov, crafted in Saint Petersburg in the 1780s by the Imperial court jeweler David Rudolph.

Executed in the finest traditions of 18th-century Russian jewelry, the snuffbox is adorned with diamonds, pearls, enamel, and an exquisite miniature portrait inspired by the masterpieces of the Pushkin Museum. Working Noon by Pavel Bryullov, painted in 1890, depicts the harvest season in western Ukraine.

More than a genre painting, it is a profound reflection on the cycle of life. From children taking their first steps in the fields to elderly women who have devoted their lives to the land, each figure represents a different stage of human existence.

Bryullov masterfully captures everyday rural life, transforming ordinary moments into a timeless narrative of family, labour and tradition. Through carefully composed figures and subtle symbolism, the artist celebrates the enduring rhythm of life and the people whose work shaped generations.

Pavel Alexandrovich Bryullov was an Academician of the Imperial Academy of Arts, a member of the Peredvizhniki (Wanderers) movement, and curator of the Fine Arts Department of the Russian Museum. An expert authentication report accompanies the work.

Russian Silver Cloisonné Enamel Casket. The Firm of Pavel Ovchinnikov. Moscow, 1882.
A magnificent work of decorative and applied art - this grand silver casket embodies the Neo-Russian aesthetic, brought to life by the master jewelers of Pavel Ovchinnikov’s renowned workshop.

Within it merge the spirit of legendary treasure chambers and the inspiration of the native land, creating a monumental work that seems to have traveled through the centuries, absorbing the history of Ancient Rus. Its elegant trapezoidal form appears to float upon a wave of inspiration, while the domed lid, adorned with enamel in intricate ornamental patterns, seems to tell a tale of ancient times and the richness of Russian culture.

Decorative bands embellished with splendid designs appear to weave a thread of time around the casket, connecting us to distant eras of the past. Every detail bears the imprint of history itself, preserved through the master’s hallmarks, which attest to its exceptional quality, authenticity, and artistic value.

In anticipation of Maison ANTIQON’s July exhibition, we begin introducing some of the most significant works that will be featured in the forthcoming display, dedicated to the treasures of the European imperial courts of the 18th–20th centuries.
Over the coming weeks, we will present objects that embody the art of diplomatic gift-giving, courtly culture, and the highest levels of craftsmanship of their time.
