Shopping Cart Surprise
I wasn’t there when this happened, but Johnny told me that whilst shopping at Woolworths Cannon Hill, he was about to put some food into our trolley when a lady stepped in front of him and started pulling it away. He politely said, “Excuse me, that’s my cart,” and she immediately replied, “Oh, I’m sorry.”
Johnny laughed it off and said, “No problem at all, just a mistake. You can keep going if you want and take it through to pay.” She laughed and said, “I might take you up on that,” and Johnny just laughed. Her husband, who was standing nearby, was laughing as well, and they all just continued shopping.
We didn’t think much of it and carried on. We actually ended up doing quite a big shop since I’ve been so busy lately. When we got to the checkout, I was scanning the items while Johnny stood next to the trolley.
Then suddenly, the same man was standing behind me while I was struggling to scan a barcode. I asked a store assistant for help, and we had to enter the item manually.
He stayed there the whole time, which I thought was a bit unusual, but I assumed he was just waiting.
As I was about to pay using my Woolworths Rewards card and credit card, he quickly stepped in and started managing the screen. Before I could even say, “I need to scan my Rewards card,” he had already tapped and paid.
It all happened so fast. I turned to look at Johnny, confused, and he just said, “I’ll explain later.”
Luckily, we spotted the couple just outside the checkout and went over to them. We said we didn’t understand why they had done that and that we really wanted to pay for it ourselves. The lady smiled and said, “It’s a good thing.”
We insisted we truly appreciated it but didn’t want to trouble them. She then said, “No, it’s already taken care of. My husband works for Woolworths in IT, and we just thought you were such a lovely couple. We wanted to do something nice for you.”
I gently asked what made them do something like this, and she simply said, “God.”
That one word stayed with me. It made me think… maybe karma really does exist.
At that point, there was nothing else we could do but accept their kindness and thank them sincerely. We took a photo, and that was the end of it.
I’ve seen so many videos on social media where people “pay it forward” while secretly filming it for content. But Terry and Michelle were different…
Simple, quiet, classy generosity 🤍
Not for content… just pure kindness.
And we’re still in shock — they paid for our entire shop, around $275.
Such a beautiful reminder that there are still genuinely kind people out there. 🤍
