How was marble created and how can you get your piece of it for your kitchen project?
Marble is formed from limestone (or sometimes dolomite), which originated millions of years ago in ancient oceans from the accumulated remains of shells, coral, and tiny sea creatures.
Through tectonic forces, this limestone gets buried deep underground.
There, intense heat (usually 300โ800 ยฐC) and enormous pressure (from the weight of overlying rocks or mountain building) act on it.
This triggers metamorphism: The tiny calcite crystals in the limestone dissolve and recrystallize into larger, tightly interlocked crystals โ without the rock melting.
Impurities like clay, iron, or other minerals get rearranged, creating the characteristic veins and colors.
The result is marble: a hard, luminous metamorphic rock that takes tens to hundreds of millions of years to form.
