「Ἥρα」
“Goddess of marriage and family. | Déesse du mariage et de la famille.”
Hera represented the ideal woman; she was the goddess of marriage, family, and protector of women in childbirth. She is known for being the wife of Zeus and queen of the ancient Greek gods. She was depicted as a majestic and solemn woman, often enthroned and crowned with the polos (a tall cylindrical crown worn by the Great Goddesses).
In her name, she was the first goddess to whom the Greeks dedicated a sanctuary in a closed, roofed temple on Samos around 800 BC. It was later replaced by the Heraeum, one of the largest Greek temples in history.
Hera could be anything, from the strong wind blowing, the firm ground on which to stand, water as a source of life, or the mighty, purifying fire. Something very unique about her was her character, determination, firmness, and honorability.
