「Ἥρα」

“Goddess of marriage and family. | Déesse du mariage et de la famille.”

Hera represented the ideal woman; she was the goddess of marriage, family, and protector of women in childbirth. She is known for being the wife of Zeus and queen of the ancient Greek gods. She was depicted as a majestic and solemn woman, often enthroned and crowned with the polos (a tall cylindrical crown worn by the Great Goddesses).

In her name, she was the first goddess to whom the Greeks dedicated a sanctuary in a closed, roofed temple on Samos around 800 BC. It was later replaced by the Heraeum, one of the largest Greek temples in history.

Hera could be anything, from the strong wind blowing, the firm ground on which to stand, water as a source of life, or the mighty, purifying fire. Something very unique about her was her character, determination, firmness, and honorability.

「Ἀφροδίτη」

“Goddess of beauty and love. | Déesse de la beauté et l’amour.”

Aphrodite was the ancient Greek goddess of love, beauty, and desire. She could provoke both gods and mortal men to commit illicit acts in her name.

She was born near Cyprus and had far more influence than traditionally seen as a simple goddess of love.

Worshipped by men and women, she played an important role in trade, on the battlefield, and in the politics of the cities of Ancient Greece.

She was honored as the protector of those who sailed the ocean, and was therefore represented as a female figure emerging from the sea foam on a seashell.

「Ἀθήνη」

“Goddess of wisdom. | Déesse de la sagesse.”

Athena was worshipped in Greece as a warrior goddess who was associated with numerous virtues. She was one of the main deities of Mount Olympus, her cult was common throughout Greece but she was especially considered the patron of Athens and the region of Attica.

She was appreciated as the goddess of wisdom and war, but on the other hand, she was associated with peace and compassion; as well as with the arts, intelligence and intuition.

Athena was a deity who was always ready for combat, although, unlike her brother Ares, the god who represented the horror of war, Athena was not attracted to war itself, but rather enjoyed strategy, and taught men to fight with intelligence and skill.

「Σελήνη」

“Goddess of the moon. | Déesse de la lune.“

Selene, which means “moon,” was depicted as a beautiful goddess with long wings and a golden crown. Her crown shone with a soft light in the darkness of the night.

The moon was a powerful force in the ancient world, their phases created the calendar of religious festivals that were celebrated throughout the year and symbolized the cycles of birth and death. Furthermore, the ancient Greeks measured time in lunar months.

The women of the ancient Greece also had a special connection with the moon, as it was linked to their menstrual cycles and the shape of the full moon reflected that of women in late pregnancy.

「Kophesh」

“Épée égyptienne.” / “Egyptian sword.”

A khopesh is a short sword that measures about 50-60 cm in length and consists of three main parts: a handle of about 18 cm, a straight section without an edge of about 15 to 30 cm, and an end in the shape of a crescent moon, with the outer edge sharpened, measuring between 30 to 40 cm.

What truly distinguishes the Egyptian Khopesh sword is its exquisite detail. Both the blade and the hilt are adorned with stylized snake motifs, a common ancient Egyptian symbol of royalty and divine authority. In particular, the presence of the snake called Uraeus stands out, a vertical or hatchling cobra that represents future life.

NILE RIVER.

Source of life and prosperity, the Nile River was fundamental in the birth of Egyptian civilization and marked, to the rhythm of its seasons, the lives of those who lived on its banks.

The ancient Egyptians called their country Kemet, “black land”, due to the black color of the silt carried and deposited by the annual flooding of the Nile that fertilized the arable lands. Kemet was the inhabited area and where the cultivation of fields was possible. Egypt was only the fertile land of the valley (Upper Egypt) and the delta (Lower Egypt). The rest was Desheret, “the red land,” named for the arid color of the sands of the uninhabited, barren, and infected desert.
