Within so-called, Parallel Universes, the ‘worlds’ will never intertwine with each other, thus dividing themselves into many different kinds of ‘worlds’; yet they share many similar characteristics if you looked closer. A simple explanation can be found in our daily life: for example, an iPhone & a Blueberry are two completely different things. In other words, the term ‘Parallel’ can pretty much b
e related to those who study arts, such as us. The courses in our college, Dasein Academy of Art, can be divided into 2 main sections: Traditional Fine Arts & Modern Day Graphic Design. Although both of the mentioned are technically ‘art, but both of those are completely different type of ‘art’. Traditional Fine Art is a more free topic ‘art’, where the artists can freely express themselves of what they’re thinking & what they want the public to think, by putting everything into their artwork. Compared to Modern Day Graphic Design, the artists are able to express themselves more. Modern Day Graphic Design, on the other hand, are more realistic, & they focused more on what the public wants & needs, to deliver what they’re expected to. In most of their time, all artists from the two groups above will be doing artworks of their own sector. People will often mentioned: interior designer, illustrator, fine art artist, graphic designer etc. Like mentioned above, they’re ALL artists, but yet, not really the ‘same’ artists. It’s a pity that within our 3 years in Dasein, we only can choose one of the many art professions’ courses available in Dasein due to time & money. Believe it or not, we actually gland that we once were a clumsy bunch of innocent newcomers who have not yet learn anything from Dasein; so that we could seize knowledge from any district as much as possible. Perhaps right after we’re graduated, we’ll be dumped to different area, entitled with different professions’ name, & stick to the job until we’re retired. Reality’s rather hash now, isn’t it? Which is why we decided to give our so-called ‘last freedom’ one last shot; to experience both of ‘Traditional Fine Arts’ & ‘Modern Day Graphic Design’, in our own unique ways of presenting them in 2 different final artworks. To break the boundaries between Traditional Fine Arts & Modern Day Graphic Design; to cross the limits of an artist’s crazy creativity; to prove that any artist can show the world what they think, yet able to satisfies what the public aimed for. These are what we’re bringing you in our exhibition: ‘Parallel’.
