TRIBE WOMEN by Oluwaseun Solomon Akinlo
•
We sit in different names
Bold
Courageous
Power
We are that mountain that can’t be shaken
We are that fountain that brings never stopping water
We are the twilight in your evening
We stand by you even when all odds seem to be against you
We whisper goodwill into your soul after long hours under the sun
We sit to feed you soul food whipped with skills passed down from generations of women
We are the powerful force of nature that drives you to be successful
We are the black confidence that sits back to see you grow and become great
Don’t underestimate us
Because we are the tribe women.

•NUPE•
This patterned hand-carved stool is made from a single block of wood. The carved top surface is decorated with intricate patterns and colours traditionally hand painted by the Nupe people - who live along the banks of Niger River and are well know for their geometric artworks on their houses and furniture.
These beautiful circular stools supported by varying numbers of feet are rooted in the rich cultural history of the Nupe people as they are traditionally presented by intending grooms to their brides on their wedding day.
•
You can use these stools to add a pop of colour to any space, indoors or outdoors it does wonders.

•Where a woman rules streams run uphill•
Too often we see societies that devalue the enlightenment and empowerment of women, reducing them to baby making machines and forgetting they are the primary educators of their offspring.
•
Teach a boy and you educate a man, teach a girl and you educate a generation….

••11:11 Mirror of Emotions••
•
Artwork: Cracks of Emotion I & II by Adeyina Ademola Rufus
•
In this body of work, the artist mirrors his emotion towards the realities of hustle and struggle the youth face on their journey towards a brighter future in Nigeria.
•
“A distorted mirror cannot give a clear image” With the current state of the country, the government poses as a distorted mirror, as their actions are hidden from the general public; good or bad, no one really knows with the lack of accountability in our government.
•
Their actions or lack thereof has discouraged many youths from pursuing and actualizing their dreams; many ending up unemployed, depressed and suicidal. So many talents, dreams and hopes cut short for no fault of their own.

••11:11 Mirror of Emotions••
•
Artwork: WHITE NOISE by Oluwaseun Solomon Akinlo
•
This piece shows the emotional impact of suppressing external influences and consistently focusing one’s own inner voice despite the inertia that occurs.
•
“ Build destroy
To build it to elevate mentalities of self
And those around self
To add positive energy
To every nation
To build you must first start from the root
Which is knowledge foundation
And add on to the highest peak
To destroy
Is to eliminate and destroy
Any and all negativity that enters my cypher
Of supreme harmony ”

••11:11 Mirror of Emotions••
•
Artwork: GATHER IN HONOR OF YOURSELF by Muktar
•
This piece comes with a message for the viewer; a message to those struggling with their emotions to look within themselves and experience presence outside of the fight for survival.
•
It highlights how very disconnected we are from our emotions and identity and how that often leaves us feeling lost.
