Exploring the Vibrant Streets of Dakar & St Luis, Senegal 🇸🇳

Got back from an incredible journey to Dakar, Senegal! 🇸🇳 some few weeks ago, I had the time of my life exploring this beautiful country, immersing myself in the unique asimilated culture, and trying the even more interesting local cuisine.

From visiting historic landmarks like the African Renaissance Monument, Gory Island exploring the vibrant markets of Senegal, and walking through the stunning beaches. Every moment was a treasure, I also had the chance to experience a country colonised by the French as against the British colonisation of Nigeria. Navig*ting the language barriers and deciphering the local currency - it was all part of the thrill!

Long time no post,working behind the scene with takes dedication and time,i am sorry it's been a few days we have been here. Anyway, how are you doing and what have you been up to(I am genuinely interested to know). What do you think is the next thing to create for the queen of spices and herbs?
I love formulating and making spices & herbs do more for me is a source of joy for me. I guess it's no brainier that this is a logical development for someone who has been in the formulating business for almost 2 decades.

Being a perfectionist (don't worry,it has its neg*tive parts except you are a very confident person),I make products that work and are beneficial to our bodies. Do you know what goes into the products you use in your hair care? Have you read the labels? Let me give you a quick example : Amla oil is one of the oils sold to help hair growth,but have you checked the labels of the very popular brands? Do you know that the green is just synthetic colour and has petroleum included that might seal in moisture but doesn't truly allow other good things to go into your scalp but clog your follicles?

This is just one example of so many others... most conditioners, for example, are more water and fillers than real nourishing. Unfortunately, we use these products not caring about the ingredients in them.

Editing this video made me think about where it all began and how far I have come. From a girl who met her new family at the age of 6,feeling so confused and scared. I was taken away from Ibadan to Zaria,meeting my birth father for the first time that I could remember.

He took me to live with his new family and I was really scared ,so much so I remember till today. It wasn't that I had somewhere good I was coming from. I was living with relatives who weren't loving, so I often felt alone and definitely didn't know the meaning of love.

I was a child who day dreamed a lot,my birth father wasn't fatherly to me most of the time and in my new home I suffered the worst of abuses. My step mum was amazing, but there were more things that were bigger than us that time. The abuses still have physical and mental damages until today.

So what I did when I wasn't violently beaten was daydream... I day dreamed I would be free one day with my own family, and I would have so much money,fame, and acceptance. That was what I craved most acceptance... This made me over and over again to seek public validation.

I was fortunate I never sorted that in a man cos I knew that was what the world expected of me. I was coming from a background that was extremely toxic,as such, it was expected I would end up pregnant and without education! So I kept to my honour and never chose a boyfriend even though I had crushes and maybe even fell in love once.

When it was time for marriage,I just wanted my own home,didn't have parents to guide me, and look out for me. I didn't think of compatibility as I felt faith was enough, and I really needed my own home and family.

The bottom line is that some things worked,and some didn't, but I am alive with beautiful children,my own business that has taken me beyond the shores of Nigeria and life experience that has made me strong,and maybe even wise.

Now I have 7 wonderful siblings, a beautiful relationship with my mum , friendships that mean the world and most importantly, my faith. So this Friday, take stock of the past so you can be grateful for your present and be hopeful for your future. The Lord has got us.

Be inspired to take bold steps this Monday! Read caption for more,the end has a gift for you :).

I have discovered that the best kind of business to do is one you are passionate about,the one that if you were woken up in the middle of the night to write papers on,you will slay them!

Having said this, don't let any motivational speaker convince you it will be a stroll in the park,the truth is,you will run a marathon with it!

You will sweat,you will burn more than candles! Some money is likely to be lost or put into learning, either you are training yourself or you are learning from someone or a school.

You will be frustrated more than once, but because you love it,you will not give up easily. Slowly but surely, it will start making sense and you will start making money.

The reality is that not everything you love and try to make a business from will turn to wealth,many times there are more fails than wins. The difference however is that you will be more passionate and have more will to do more.

If after years it's still not making sense,maybe its not the right thing for you! Oh,I have done so many things. I have sold jewelleries,sold thrift for over 8 years when thift wasn't a flex. I have designed painted walls,sold thifted cookware,sold organic fruits and vegetables(that one na failure!) etc.

I have had to end many cos they were money down the drain and passion wasn't making the money no feeding us. So if you love something and you give it your all and no profit is coming from it,know when to put an end to it as passion won't feed you.

This week,revive what you love doing and give it extra push,or this week make the descion you know it's about time to put an end to it to a passion that isn't bringing in the cash. I am not saying give up on your dream but be wise and be honest with yourself.

I took these pictures about 6 years ago and found them yesterday night on google photos. I used to love product photography, but I am now too busy to do much photography again...

Yesterday was a challenging day for me. As the founder of SMD Spice Mix and the new brand SMDHairMe, I've invested a significant amount in raw materials, leaving me with limited cash flow. I had to make a payment for a monthly contribution, but my funds were tied up. I managed to negotiate a temporary extension and prayed for a solution.

As a single parent, it can be overwhelming to balance expenses and responsibilities. There are times when it feels like everything is piling up, and I'm sure many can relate even in two income homes. But I've learned that in those moments, it's essential to turn to my faith.

I prayed for guidance and provision, and miraculously, sales picked up, allowing me to make the payment before the end of time extension. It was such a huge relief, and I'm grateful to Allah for His provision. This experience reminded me that as entrepreneurs, our money is often invested in ingredients and products, yet we have personal and family responsibilities vying for the same funds, but with God, there's always a way forward.

To all the parents and entrepreneurs out there, especially single income homes, I want to encourage you to hold on to your faith when things get tough. God is always there for you, and with hard work and determination, you can overcome any obstacle. Don't give up, even when it seems impossible. Ensure you have products and strategies that will ensure your brand is a winner. Most importantly, turn to God, and He will provide a way forward.

I hope this inspires you to do the same. Remember, it's not about having millions in the bank; it's about trusting in Allah's pro
vision and working hard towards your goals.

At what age should kids start cooking? I believe it is very important to teach teach both boys and girls this essential life skill because it builds confidence, independence, and responsibility!

When i shot that video, my little lady was just about 10/ 11 years old, but she started cooking by 9years. She loves staying with me in the kitchen and often joins me. In the video, we were whipping up a delicious stir-fry fried rice using our favourite SMD spice mix! 🍚
