Lately, my work has been expanding more and more into interior applications, a new direction where my modular textile techniques scale up into spatial installations. At the same time, the accessory collection is still running at full speed🚀 That combination is what makes it especially interesting, but also sometimes a bit of a balancing act...

All the more special to be included in Chantal’s favourites in &C Magazine. A nice moment to also put the wearables in the spotlight 💫

I was invited to join 'The Showcase' at .nl Amsterdam, an exhibition opportinity that highlights local design and craftsmanship, surrounded by the more permanent presentations of established interior partners. For a period of three months my work is on display at this lovely venue.
You’re warmly invited to meet me at Broeinest for a personal conversation about your vision and discover how a bespoke tapestry could elevate your home or workspace.

A big thank you to the Broeinest team for the opportunity to exhibit various swatches and experimental work in this setting, including the large tapestry recently shown at ✨️
In this presentation, visitors can fully circle the work, allowing for a richer understanding of its materiality, structure, and spatial presence.

For those who don't know it, Broeinest is a unique kind of material library for interior professionals, a place where architects and designers can explore an extensive collection of materials from a wide range of interior brands.

What an incredible week at Salon Résonances. ✨
I’m still glowing from all the conversations, questions, curiosity and genuine appreciation for craftsmanship.

A huge thank you to the organisation for creating such a beautiful and inspiring event and to every single visitor who stopped by. It was truly special to speak with so many people who are deeply interested in making, materials and technique. I loved how often you asked: “Is it ceramics? Is it paper? Is it fabric?”

Moments like that remind me why I love sharing my work. Explaining my modular textile technique, showing the process, and helping you find your perfect wearable from the accessory collection was a real pleasure. Thank you for your enthusiasm, your kind words and your beautiful purchases.

And a very heartfelt merci to my two wonderful French assistants, Anaëlle and Enora. Last year they were my interns, and this week they travelled across France just to come help me again. Their energy, support, and eye for detail made the experience unforgettable. 💛

Thank you once again to the entire team for making this event so thoughtfully organised, so welcoming and so rich in craftsmanship.
Feeling grateful, inspired, and already looking forward to possibly a next edition.

'The Backside' 🔄
With its architectural presence and adaptable form, Iréka transitions seamlessly from gallery wall piece to room divider. Because the backside is just as intriguing as the front side ✨️

Iréka introduces a new chapter in the modular textile universe of Atelier Iris Nijenhuis. Designed for the Carpet Diem exhibition in Paris, this tapestry unites responsible material sourcing with advanced textile engineering. Measuring 2 by 3.3 meters, the piece explores the dialogue between waste and worth, combining upcycled felt from discarded workwear by with 3D-knitted fabrics from

More than a visual statement, Iréka embodies a circular design philosophy. Through tessellation patterns and creative nesting, offcut waste is reduced to an absolute minimum, bringing the work close to zero-waste production. Each module is laser-cut with meticulous precision and hand-assembled, balancing digital accuracy with artisanal tactility, a signature of Nijenhuis’ modular design language.

The result is a sculptural, lightweight textile object that interacts with light and shadow, inviting exploration from every angle✨️
It invites viewers to see textiles not merely as surfaces, but as modular systems capable of functioning as building blocks. Iréka reflects an ongoing exploration into material intelligence and textile connectivity, where research in modularity translates into bold, spatial compositions within art and space.

On show at HOW & WOW✨️ 18-26 October
••••••••••••••••••••••
During Dutch Design Week 2025, Crafts Council Nederland showcases the work of talented makers across a wide range of craft disciplines. From bronze casting to knitting and from woodturning to glassblowing: these makers have spent many years mastering their
techniques and practices, becoming experts
in their fields.
Though craft makers often work autonomously, their work is rarely the result of purely individual effort. Makers learn from each other and exchange materials and techniques.
Their practice connects them with contemporary peers, as well as with makers from past and future generations. Craft makers safeguard and renew knowledge that has been built up over many centuries, knowledge for which formal education often no longer exists today.
Craft makers are also in continuous dialogue with material. They conduct thorough research into the origins and capacities of materials, pushing the limits of what these can do. In doing so, makers engage with current questions, such as how local materials and craft techniques can contribute to a more sustainable future.
Craft renews the bonds between people, materials, and landscapes, resulting in unique objects made with respect for their surroundings, in which the presence of the human hand is evident.
Objects that surprise, stir the senses, and spark curiosity, and that invite reflection on our relationship with the world around us.
••••••••••••••••••••••
Crafts Council Nederland is the Netherlands’ platform for creative craft. Through community building, research, knowledge sharing, and inspiring presentations, we support makers and innovate craft techniques.
