This exquisitely crafted statue of the Thousand-Armed, Multi-Faced Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, is a sacred work by Santa Kumar Shakya, a master artisan officially certified by the Government of Nepal. The entire sculpture is cast in refined red copper using the ancient lost-wax method, then fully gilded in radiant gold, and finally hand-chiseled and polished with utmost precision. Every fold, feature, and motif adheres to the highest standards of Himalayan craftsmanship, making this a work of sacred and artistic excellence.
Rising in majestic posture, the statue displays eleven serene faces arranged vertically, culminating in the divine image of Amitabha Buddha—a representation of transcendent wisdom. A thousand graceful arms radiate outward in balanced formation, each palm bearing a sacred eye, symbolizing omniscient awareness and ceaseless compassion. At the center of this cosmic array, Avalokiteshvara stands adorned with ritual objects in his many hands: lotus flowers, wish-fulfilling jewels, crystal prayer beads, and nectar flasks—each imbued with deep spiritual symbolism.
Behind the deity, a beautifully carved mandorla forms a radiant halo of spiritual energy. The lotus pedestal beneath the Bodhisattva is supported by two finely sculpted snow lions, their muscular forms exuding power, dignity, and divine protection. This interplay of strength and serenity grounds the statue while enhancing its divine elevation.
The Bodhisattva is dressed in ornate, flowing robes that drape naturally, embellished with auspicious symbols, Buddhist emblems, and dragon motifs. At the statue’s center, a pair of hands are joined in Anjali Mudra, symbolizing reverence and unity. Other hands hold a blooming lotus, mala beads, and a bow and arrow, representing clarity, mindfulness, and enlightened action.
Encircling the base are conch-shell ritual implements carved with fine detail. Below the snow lions, downward-facing lotus petals bloom gracefully, with larger floral designs anchoring each corner of the throne. The pedestal’s lowest layer is adorned with cloud motifs, all converging into the form of a vajra—the thunderbolt symbol of indestructible truth and unshakable spiritual realization.
